Mainland New Martial Arts: Cangyue, Xiao linden, Bu Fei Yan

After 30 years of hard work, Chinese mainland formed a group of writers of martial arts novels, represented by Cangyue, Wang Qingchuan, Feng Ge, Xiao Lin, Bu Feiyan, Shen Yingying, Porco Rosso, Shi Weihan, Yang Rebellion and so on.

With a large number of works, they have established a relatively stable creative reading circle in China, and have become the main group of writers of Chinese martial arts novels in the new era.

This time, three writers were picked, Cangyue, Xiao Lin, and Bu Feiyan, talking about the characteristics of the new martial arts novels on the mainland.

The reason for the selection of these three writers is that they have put forward their own views on what is chivalrous, and this view is different from the concept of "the great hero is for the country and the people" put forward by Jin Yong and others.

The moon is its people

Cangyue, born on May 15, 1979 in Taizhou, Zhejiang, formerly known as Wang Yang, holds a master's degree in architecture from Zhejiang University and is now a professional architect. Because he liked Li Shangyin's poem "Jinse" in the Tang Dynasty, he took the first sentence of "There are tears in the pearls of the moon in the sea, and the warm jade in the blue field" as a pen name.

Cangyue began to create martial arts in middle school, during which time it was interrupted. After studying at Zhejiang University, he began to create martial arts again. In 2001, he began to publish novels in major martial arts BBSs such as Banyan Tree And Qingyun Academy, and successively published short stories in magazines such as "Legends of Modern and Ancient Times", "Heroes and Famous Detectives", "Hot Wind Martial Arts Stories" and other magazines, and then turned into fantasy creations.

His martial arts works mainly include the Listening snow building series: "Blood Wei", "Flower Protection Bell", "Wasteland Snow";

Dingjian Pavilion Series: "Desert Desert Face", "Emperor Fu", "Manju Shahua", "Illusory World", "Sword Song", "Seven Nights of Snow" and so on.

As the most influential female martial arts writer and representative of online martial arts creation, Cangyue's works are gorgeous and magnificent, pay attention to the inner emotions of characters, especially female characters, have the tendency of animation, and are loved by a large number of teenagers.

"Dongfeng Broken" was published in the 7th issue of "Legend of The Ancient And Ancient Legends and Martial Arts Edition" in 2004, and was later published by the World Knowledge Publishing House in 2005 as a side article of the "Mirror Series" of cangyue fantasy works, and was selected into many annual wuxia novel selections.

What is chivalry, chivalry is only about the result, regardless of the process, this is the theme of "East Wind Broken", which can be summarized as the alienation of politics to people. What is chivalry, this theme has been very wonderfully interpreted by many previous writers, especially Jin Yong, but in the hands of Cangyue, it has a new look.

The protagonist of the novel, Xia Yubing, is a very tragic non-martial artist. He was originally a Confucian with the ambition to govern the country and the world, and his lover Mu Xiang said, "If you are successful in learning swords, you can only be an enemy of a hundred people at most, and if Yu Bing can uproot the Taishi party in the court, it will save the world from water and fire!" This is also Xia Yubing's ambition, here, his chivalry is also the realm of "serving the country and the people, the great hero".

However, unlike those heroes in Jin Yong's novels who show "for the country and the people, the hero is great", Cangyue's "the hero is great, for the country and the people" is only the ultimate goal, and the process can be unscrupulous.

To achieve his goal, he sacrificed his love, dignity, conscience, and even life, hurting the people he loved and those who loved him. What makes the novel even more thought-provoking is that the result is really as lofty as Xia Yubing imagined? Is it really "the great hero, for the country and the people" in the end?

Not necessarily, the result was nothing more than a dirty coup d'état for a group of greedy bureaucrats, and even his death was used to stir up the hearts and minds of the people and consolidate the new regime.

The treacherous atmosphere he wanted to wipe out not only did not restrain but intensified. The name of Xia Yu Bing is from "Zhuangzi Qiushui": "Summer worms cannot speak to ice people, but they should also be faithful to shiye." This means not to talk about ice with insects that grow in the summer, a metaphor for time limiting people's insight, and also a metaphor for people's short-sightedness.

Naming him after such an allusion should be ironic.

However, it is difficult for readers to condemn Xia Yubing, because he really has to do it, and what he does is completely caused by the environment.

The end of the novel is interesting: "What is positive?" What is evil? What is a loyal traitor, and what is black and white? It can make the heroes and children, and the ice charcoal in their hearts is broken. Under the alienated political system, there is no good or evil black and white to speak of, and even "for the country and the people, the hero is great" is difficult to truly implement, perhaps it is just an ideal and slogan.

Little linden its people

Xiao Lin, born on February 27, 1973 in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang, was formerly known as Li Deuterium (dao). He often lives in Suizhou, Hubei Province, and occasionally lives in Shenzhen. Working as a tailor and salesman, he began writing articles, emotional stories, essays, essays, and essays for women's and youth magazines as a freelance writer in 1997. In 2000, he began to write "Cup of Snow", and then devoted himself to the creation of martial arts novels.

His major works include the "Chang'an Guyi" series, "Cup snow" (also known as "The Legend of the Heroes of the Troubled World"), "Luoyang Daughter Line", "The Legend of Qingsijing", "The Gap in the Colt", "Borrowing the Red Light", "Magic Pupil", "Kaitang" series, etc.

His creation is roughly based on the combination of history and martial arts as the main line, the writing is smooth and poetic, and he firmly constructs the depth of the work with his own unique thinking, and his personal style is very distinct.

"Cup snow" was first published in 2001 under the name of "Legend of a Troubled Hero", "Legend of the Ancient World, Martial Arts Edition", which was serialized in the trial issue number, the inaugural issue number and the first half of April to the second half of May edition in 2003, and was published by New World Publishing House in 2005, renamed "Cup Snow".

The story of "Cup of Snow" originates from a cup, and this crucial cup is only mentioned at the end of the story. This is actually the special narrative method chosen by the novel. The protagonist of the novel, Luo Han, appears on the front and side of the whole article, but it accounts for about one-third of the length.

However, this teenager was very impressive. Luo Han was no longer the martial arts darling of those talented talents who had repeatedly encountered a dingjianghu before, although he had the ultimate martial arts from the Saiwai Yong closed arsenal, it was no longer possible to fight invincible hands all over the world with his own strength, so the jianghu where he was was no longer the jianghu he used to be.

The novel discusses a very interesting question: what is a hero, and the hero is the most suitable way to show his ambitions.

That's the conclusion of the novel. From the chivalrous guests who are driven away by the subordinates of famous ministers and officials in public case novels, to the righteous soldiers who kill corrupt officials and even rise up in the martial arts of the Republic of China, what chivalry can do to the country is nothing more than the strength of a puppet.

As for Guo Jing, who insisted on Xiangyang in "The Legend of the Eagle Shooter", he played the idealized side of the martial arts novel to the extreme, and basically did not have operability.

Under the premise that the chivalrous does not have the personal ability to change the unreasonable reality system, the several paths provided by "Cup snow" are very interesting. The first is the Zhongzhou hero Geng Canghuai, who is a perfect person in the standard Confucian sense, who has been loyal to the king, patriotic, bright and upright all his life, and has never had the slightest shame in his behavior, and is a pure hero.

However, all he could do in his life was to save a few small people, and he did not get big ambitions.

This was followed by Yuan Chenlong. He came from a humble background, experienced many setbacks, had unparalleled martial arts and unparalleled talents, and won many staunch supporters by relying on his own courage, at least he could be called a tyrant.

Although Yuan Chenlong's character is not impeccable and is a flawed hero, compared to Geng Canghuai, he is more able to make a difference, and he is more realistic in the situation at that time, and from this character, he shows more of a mature politician's demeanor.

The third way is to drink a cup of wine, gather righteous soldiers to run Huaishang by oneself, and borrow money and even rob the rich.

In a sense, he actually chose the same path as Yuan Chenlong, but it was more difficult, because he also had to survive in the cracks between political forces, but he did not have the support of many forces, and finally compromised with the enemy, which was quite a bit of a hero who had to bow his head at the end of the road, and was a compromise hero.

And Luo Han, even if he has a sharp mind, can only see through what they have done and what they want to do at the beginning, but he cannot understand why they are doing it. His orientation from being incompatible at the beginning to finally growing up to represent Huaishang's alliance with opponents he did not like was even more self-evident--in such a jianghu, if it were not for compromise and cooperation, he would not do anything.

The final choice of these characters removes the veil of the idealism of martial arts novels, but has a deeper socio-historical and cultural value, that is, the hero must be combined with reality to make a difference.

Step is not smoke its people

Bu Feiyan, born on July 11, 1981 in Chengdu, Sichuan, formerly known as Xin Xiaojuan, was admitted to the Department of Chinese of Peking University in 1999 to study classical literature, and then continued his studies in the Department of Chinese of Peking University, obtained a doctorate in ancient literature, and now teaches at Renmin University.

Since 2004, Bu Feiyan has published millions of words in martial arts publications such as "Legend of The Ancient World, Wuxia Edition", "Wuxia Stories", and "New Wuxia", and has published more than 10 works so far.

Wuxia works mainly include the "Huayin Liushao" series, the "Wulin Inn" series, "Sword Man Love", "Shuluo Dao" and so on. Now he mainly works on fantasy works.

Bu Feiyan, as a representative of female writing martial arts, put forward the concept of "neutral martial arts", she does not recognize herself as a representative of female martial arts; her martial arts works are skilled in writing, the plot has fantasy overtones, and the imagination is wild; She is good at borrowing elements of exotic cultures, and her pen edge is changeable, which is very popular with young readers.

The Shura Dao is divided into three parts, the upper, middle and lower parts, and is serialized in the "Legend of the Ancient And Ancients. Wuxia Edition was published in the first half of April, the second half of April and the first half of May in April 2006, and was published by 21st Century Press in November 2006.

What is a hero? In ancient times, the hero was summarized as "the road is uneven, drawing the sword to help each other", which is synonymous with fairness and justice. In contemporary times, Jin Yong said: "The great hero is for the country and the people";

Liang Yusheng said: "Justice is an act that is beneficial to the majority of the people, and the duty of a hero is to maintain justice." These concepts, deeply infiltrated by Confucianism, have become the mainstream of chivalrous thought, the eternal theme of martial arts novels.

However, Bu Feiyan said: "I hope that one day, everyone can agree that in addition to the Confucian hero, there is another kind of chivalry." This kind of chivalrous guest may not think that it is his duty to the country and the people, but to come out of the world and escape between heaven and earth. This is another kind of chivalry, the Taoist man, the idle man. "

What is chivalry, she believes that chivalry is an ideal state of free existence, for the obligations that people should have to other social existence, it is not appropriate to emphasize, holding high the banner of realizing personal value, this is the essence of chivalry.

In a sense, "Shuluo Dao" is the best commentary on Bu Feiyan's chivalrous view of righteousness, and it is also her best martial arts work, because the driving force that drives the whole story is the desire of the twelve killers for freedom. What she wrote was what she ideally called the free and easy man.

The name of the Shura Path comes from the Buddhist scriptures. The novel has a dual story structure.

The first structure is a classic restatement based on the legendary novel collection Legend compiled by Pei Zhou in the Tang Dynasty.

The book "Legend" has long been scattered, but there are many famous ones, from which the novel carefully selects thirteen well-known legends to name the characters in the novel, and as the plot progresses, the story in "Legend" corresponds to the characters in the novel, and even the compiler Pei Kang also appears directly in the story as the image of the painter Non-Cloth and The Swordsman Potassium, so that the reader cannot tell whether it is a legend or a novel.

The second structure is the level of suspenseful storytelling. From the second chapter of the novel, the rough outline of a very complex "Blizzard Mountain Villa" is revealed. Starting from the appearance of Pei Hang, the reader begins a thrilling escape career with the perspective of the characters.

The author incorporates the characteristics of the analogy of killing, organizing the story into an airtight and climactic climax. The twelve killers sniping at each other, the process is ingenious and dizzying.

There is no plot that is not unexpected by the reader, there is no suspense that does not make people try their best to explore the roots, do not allow the reader to relax for a moment, and the process of reading is the process of the reader immersing himself in it and unable to extricate himself. This is an excellent structure of suspense novels, and it is also an excellent work of suspense novels.

What is a hero? Cangyue thought that that kind of purely idealized hero might not exist at all. Oglin believes that the hero must be combined with reality to achieve his ideals. Bu Feiyan believes that the hero is self-indulgence.

They all tried to put forward new concepts in addition to the "hero of the hero, for the country and the people" portrayed by Jin Yong and others. These ideas may only be their own attempts and explorations, but they are also a feature of the works of the new martial arts in the mainland.
