When the Bing Chat chatbot debuted, the company didn't set any limits on the number of conversations the tool could have. Well, the problem soon arises. Therefore, over the past few months, Microsoft has gradually increased the number of conversations limit for this AI tool to enhance its usability.
A few days ago, an exclusive news from the Wall Street Journal revealed that Microsoft and OpenAI do not have the harmony imagined by the outside world, and there is competition under the table. Microsoft's use of GPT-4 on Bing Chat did not heed OpenAI's warnings, resulting in inaccurate and unpredictable responses from chatbots in the early days, including some speech tendencies that lead to bad customs and antisocial personalities.
Microsoft Bing Chat was discovered by users shortly after its launch, such as insulting users, lying to them, sulking, and irritating users. Microsoft quickly introduced throttling measures, directly limiting user conversations to just 15 times to avoid too many strange replies. After optimization, it was increased to 20 conversations for a period of time, and recently the conversation limit was increased to 30. But even so, the chatbot still often makes mistakes, and Microsoft has to adopt a strategy of "sensitive thesaurus" restrictions, such as encountering a user asking something that is difficult to answer, the chatbot will directly "refuse to reply" and stop the conversation.
Although Microsoft and OpenAI are relatively simple cooperative relations, Microsoft is a large platform company facing competition from technology giants such as Google and Meta, and its forward-looking market occupation is obviously more urgent than OpenAI. On the other hand, OpenAI does not have the competitive pressure of large companies, has more freedom to act, and is not eager to invest in too many consumer applications.
