Digging deep into the "gambling case": Yan Bingtao completed four match-fixing, was only 16 years old when he committed his first offense, and did not cheat in the German final

The World Professional Billy and Snooker Association (WPBSA) released a 58-page detailed "report" while announcing the results of the handling of the ten players involved in the "gambling case".

The Report is divided into seven parts, including "Introduction", "Enforcement Background", "Factual Background", "WPBSA Conduct Regulations", "Determination of Responsibility", "Reasons for Judgment" and "Penalty Results", which contain almost all the details related to the "gambling case", and is the most important tool for a comprehensive understanding of the "gambling case". However, the content of the report is too cumbersome to be fully reflected in a single push. "Billiards Don't Make a Noise" has distilled the most important elements of the report. From now on, it will be pushed in serial form in chapters.

The following is a compilation of all the key contents related to Yan Bingtao in the sections of "Reasons for Judgment" and "Punishment Results".

Digging deep into the "gambling case": Yan Bingtao completed four match-fixing, was only 16 years old when he committed his first offense, and did not cheat in the German final

In the detailed report released by the WPBSA, Yan Bingtao faced two major and five small charges, and Yan Bingtao admitted all the charges, so all the charges were established. The most critical charge 20 (A/B/C/D) can be directly understood as match-fixing. In other words, Yan Bingtao personally completed four match-fixing. However, according to the investigation released by the WPBSA, Yan Bingtao's 0-9 defeat to Zhao Xintong in the final of the German Masters was not a match-fixing.

2016, Paul Hunt Classic, 1/8 Final, Yan Bingtao 1-4 D. Dell

2022, Welsh Open, 1/16 final, Yan Bingtao 2-4 R. Wharton

2022, Turkish Masters, 1/8 final, Yan Bingtao 4-5 O. Lynes

2022, British Open, Round 2, Yan Bingtao 3-4 J. Brown

Summarizing the rules from the more than ten completed or planned but unfinished match-fixing announced by the WPBSA, it is not difficult to find that match-fixing is concentrated in the early rounds of a certain match, and the "plot" will arrange for the dominant player to lose one or more rounds in a shock, but rarely lose the entire game in an exaggerated and unreasonable way. Unless the intelligence level is severely low, no player will match the ball 9-0 in the final; Unless the level of intelligence is severely low, no one will believe that there will be a match-fixing 9-0 in the final.

In imposing the penalty, the Committee took into account that Yan Bingtao was only 16 years old when he first committed the offence, that one of the match-fixing games was influenced by Li Xing, and that he admitted the charges as early as possible. Therefore, Yan Bingtao's total ban period is 7 years and 6 months, and after the reduction of his sentence, the actual suspension period is 5 years. The blackout period runs from December 12, 2022 to December 11, 2027.

Li Xing spoke with Yan Bingtao several times during the British Open. The match against Jordan Brown was Yan Bingtao's third match in the tournament. Li Xing told him that he had placed a bet on the match. Yan Bingtao had a close relationship with Li Xing, and in Chinese culture, he found it offensive to refuse requests from close friends. Li Xing convinced him that it was safe to deliberately lose the game against Jordan Brown. Therefore, he decided to agree to this agreed game manipulation.

The evidence provided by Li Xing was that Yan Bingtao had approached him because Yan Bingtao's money was kept by his wife, and Yan Bingtao needed money. Li Xing had tried unsuccessfully to prevent Yan Bingtao from manipulating the match, so he reluctantly helped Yan Bingtao place bets on the match. Mr. Li relied on a voice message from Mr. Yan, in which Mr. Yan said he had approached Mr. Li. However, in an investigative interview, Yan Bingtao denied this; He said what Li Xing wanted to hear because he was afraid of him and didn't want to offend him.

The Commission accepted Yan Bingtao's testimony.
