Institut Pasteur, France: If there is no prevention and control measures, there may be a new wave of the epidemic in France this autumn

On June 28, local time, the French Pasteur Institute predicted according to its latest modeling research that if there are no prevention and control measures and insufficient vaccine coverage by this autumn, then affected by the spread of the Delta strain, France may usher in a new wave of new crown epidemic, and the number of new hospital admissions may reach the peak of last autumn, that is, more than 2500 people are admitted to the hospital in a single day.

The benchmark for this calculation by the Institut Pasteur assumes that by September this year, the proportion of COVID-19 vaccinations in France in the three age groups of 60 years old, 18 to 59 years old and 12 to 17 years old will reach 90%, 70% and 30% respectively. However, the French media commented that according to the current vaccination schedule, it may be difficult to achieve this assumed goal. In particular, the recent significant decline in the popularity of French people to make appointments for vaccination has caused a certain degree of concern to the French government.

The Institut Pasteur's model also shows that unvaccinated people will be at 12 times higher risk than vaccine-protected people when it comes to the spread of the new crown virus, so the most effective prevention and control measure at present is still vaccination. The Institut Pasteur also suggested that France should implement additional anti-epidemic restrictions this autumn. (Reporter Zou Heyi)
