On June 1st, the 5th Zhijiang International Youth Art Week and the graduation season of China Academy of Art with the theme of "Brain Garden" were officially opened.
Continuing the display method of the graduation season of the China Academy of Art (referred to as Qingyi Week) in recent years, this exhibition is also a cultural and artistic event throughout Hangzhou, distributed in six major venues such as Zhejiang Exhibition Hall, West Lake Art Museum, Zhejiang Art Museum, and Art and Creative Town, presenting more than 3,000 works by more than 2,500 fresh graduates.
Youth Arts Week where virtual and real blend
The Paper learned that in recent years, the graduation season of the China Academy of Art has been iterating on itself. Since 2010, Gome has pioneered the graduation season open to all Hangzhou citizens, and in 2019, on the basis of the school's graduation season, it has been integrated and upgraded to "Zhijiang International Youth Art Week", opening the city carnival throughout Hangzhou, so as to create a "college without walls".
The first "Youth, View, World" in 2019 showed the attitude of "talking to the world"; The second edition of "Living Together" in 2020 is a response to the rethinking of human lifestyles under the pandemic; The 3rd Youth Arts Week "Now History" in 2021 is a rethinking of "living together", thinking about the loss and crisis in the face of the global epidemic; The 2022 Youth Art Week "Life Force" calls on young artists and designers to devote themselves to the life scene at this moment, and use artistic creativity to transform the driving force of "upward and forward life".

This year, the graduation season of the China Academy of Art will be themed "Brain Garden". The explanation of this theme is that the garden once placed human beings' beautiful vision of the age of innocence, whether it is the Garden of Eden, the peach blossom source or the pastoral Arcadia, whether it is the ideal country, utopia or Marco Polo's Kublai Khan's "fairy capital", in the land of all kinds of dreams, flowers bloom everywhere, everything is subject to order, there is no strife, no suffering, all things live in harmony, and people are free and happy. Therefore, the academy is also a garden, and learning in the art academy is not carefree roaming and playing in the garden, but working with nature and growing with beauty.

On the evening of June 1st, the opening ceremony of the 5th Zhijiang International Youth Art Week 2023 was staged in Hangzhou Wulin Square, and was broadcast live online on Gome's platforms.
Following the exploration of digital, artificial intelligence and other topics in the previous Youth Arts Week, this exhibition still focuses on these topics. In 2023, ChatGPT and AI will set off a new wave of technology. With the integration of brain-computer technology, the boundary between virtual and real is gradually blurred, this opening ceremony opens with the AIGC film "Oddinary", indicating that human beings have stood at the crossroads of a new era of intelligent civilization, while the mixed reality opening ceremony "AI Garden" leads people into the future of exploring the era of artificial intelligence.

In the fashion show session, more than 80 works by 46 students majoring in fashion and costume design from the School of Design and Art focused on cutting-edge exploration in the fields of art, philosophy and science and technology, focusing on topics such as survival crisis, cultural alienation, social care, body language, emotional barriers, and future testing grounds, and carried out the design in an open-ended concept and multi-dimensional expression.

In this graduation exhibition, the School of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Art took "Infinite Thought" as the sub-theme, and concentrated on 303 graduation works/groups, including the four professional directions of characters, landscapes, flowers and birds, comprehensive four professional directions of the Department of Chinese Painting, calligraphy and seal carving of the Department of Calligraphy, and calligraphy and education. Superb pen and ink skills, diversified formal languages, broad academic vision, independent creative spirit, and profound social care are the goals of the cultivation of artistic talents in traditional disciplines, and the graduation exhibition of the college is a display of teaching achievements.

With the theme of "New Plants and Trees in the Garden", the School of Painting Art showcases the vibrant scene of longing to express life through painting after three years of the epidemic. In the students' writings, there are both figurative depictions of the surrounding objects and abstract generalizations of their respective lives. For the expression of painting, the relevant person in charge of the school said that he believes that painting is the foundation of big history, the new era of big times, and the core of big art; Believe that painting is a method, a practical and concrete way to free the individual from the immature state of the self.
The School of Sculpture and Public Art takes the "nomadic seed" as the introduction, reflecting on the continuous change and evolution of the individual and society, and the desire to explore the unknown as the core. The faculty, which includes the Department of Sculpture, the Department of Public Space Art and the Department of Fiber Art, exhibits a total of 180 works by 156 people. The works of the Department of Visual Communication Design of the School of Design and Art demonstrate the unique possibilities of graduates in exploring the boundaries of tradition and innovation, the integration of humanities and technology, solving social problems and expanding artistic expression. Students of the Department of Dyeing, Weaving and Fashion Design focus on sustainable material design, smart textile design, digital textile design, healing design, oriental design and other research fields. With the theme of "World Giants", the School of Intermedia Art exhibits more than 200 works, demonstrating the profound changes in our relationship with the world, and inspiring young creators to expand their minds and meditate on their own souls and the external world. The graduation exhibition is divided into exhibition sections such as "The Silence of the Flowing Flow", "Human Craft Energy", "Crossing the River into the Forest", "Creation Continent", "Motivation" and "Sound", etc., and will span different media categories such as live performances, video installations, power devices, miniatures, monument installations, etc., covering multiple themes and presenting a powerful collection of various expressive techniques of cross-media art. The School of Innovative Design takes "Collaborators" as the sub-theme to discuss the cooperation between art and science, the cooperation between AI and human co-creation, the cooperation in biological genetic evolution, the cooperation in social design, and the cooperation in culture, economy and history.

During the exhibition, Gome will open a week-long "Nanshan Art Market" in the adjacent space of the Zhejiang Exhibition Center to display and sell creative design, intangible inheritance, cultural communication products, and create a mobile life aesthetics pavilion. The project has attracted more than 70 student entrepreneurs, combining culture, literature and art, culture and creativity.
In addition, as a special planner of this year's Gome graduation exhibition, the Academy of Fine Arts and Hua Xizi jointly held the "Oriental Garden" theme competition creation exhibition, which was officially launched at the flagship store of Hua Xizi West Lake Hidden Garden on May 31. This is not only a cross-border attempt of the Gome graduation exhibition, but also an exploration of the integration of production, education and research, when artistic exploration meets oriental gardens, creating a rich oriental culture and art feast. At the same time, Hua Xizi x China Academy of Art Guochao Art Research Center was also established on the same day.
In April this year, the China Academy of Art released the "CAACOSMOS Online Art Community" on the occasion of its 95th anniversary. The project is an art ecological community oriented to the metaverse, creating online scenes for life exchanges for global artists and designers, and forming digital applications integrating online exhibitions, information, courses, lectures, forums, workshops, live broadcasts, digital rights confirmation, and AI tools. In this year's Youth Arts Week, the platform provided DCI digital copyright services, providing 10,000 free works of art for all graduates, which is not only the importance of digital copyright in institutions, but also the expectation that students have better copyright awareness and focus on mining the value of digital assets.
