According to the information at that time, Huawei's "genius boy" salary was divided into three levels, the highest grade was 1.82 million ~ 2.01 million yuan, the second level was 1.405 million ~ 1.565 million yuan, and the third level was 896,000 ~ 1.008 million yuan. According to the plan, Huawei will recruit 20~30 "talented teenagers" from all over the world in 2019, and 200~300 more in the following year. Finally, in 2020~2021, Huawei recruited about 26,000 fresh graduates, of whom more than 300 became "talented teenagers". In 2022, this number can also reach hundreds.

In fact, Huawei's recruitment of "talented teenagers" has become a common practice.

In April 2022, Huawei Recruitment also released similar information, but the content of the two releases was slightly different, last year's initial slogan was "Break the sky upwards, take root downward", and the first sentence of this year's recruitment slogan was changed to "expand the boundaries of theory with endless search, and light up engineering innovation with the spark of wisdom", and the pattern seems to have become larger.

02. The sharp decline in net profit has not been a loss in research and development

In 2022, Huawei's sales revenue increased slightly by 0.9% to CNY 642.3 billion, of which revenue from carrier business areas reached CNY 284 billion, enterprise revenue was CNY 133.2 billion, and terminal revenue was CNY 214.5 billion. However, Huawei's net profit was only 35.6 billion yuan, a decrease of 78.1 billion yuan or 69% compared with 113.7 billion yuan in the previous year, becoming the lowest in the past five years, and this figure was 59.3 billion yuan, 62.7 billion yuan and 64.6 billion yuan in 2018~2020, respectively.

Huawei's net profit fell sharply, not only because of the 8% decrease in gross margin, but also related to a series of increases in its expenses.

In 2022, Huawei's sales and management expenses increased by 5% year-on-year to nearly 110 billion yuan, while R&D expenses also increased by 13% year-on-year, from 142.7 billion yuan in the previous year to 161.5 billion yuan, accounting for 25% of the annual revenue, and the cumulative R&D expenditure invested in the past ten years was close to 1 trillion yuan. It can be said that even in the case of weak revenue growth, Huawei's investment in research and development has not decreased but increased.

It is worth mentioning that Huawei's smart car business, which has placed high hopes on in recent years, seems to have not yet ushered in a harvest moment. In 2022, Huawei disclosed for the first time that the revenue of the smart car solution business was 2.1 billion yuan, but it only accounted for 0.3% of the total revenue, and since the establishment of the smart car solution BU, the cumulative investment has reached 3 billion US dollars, or about 21 billion yuan.
