In his previous races, Matthew set a world youth record in the short pool at 1:40.65 in the 200m freestyle and 1:51.45 in the 200m medley. He is the same age as Huang Shanyu and currently has a good score in the 200m freestyle and 200m medley.

Huang Shanyu's main event is the 100m and 200m freestyles, which began to emerge last year, breaking the Asian record in the 100-meter freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics and reaching the Olympic final. The gold medal in the 200m freestyle at Doha was also his first international gold medal.

At the South Korean national competition on October 12, he swam 1:48.02 in the 200m medley, raising the national record of park Tae-hwan by more than 2 seconds.
