The white-browed brown woodpecker (scientific name: Sasia ochracea) is a small bird with a body length of 8 to 9 cm. The forehead is golden yellow, the eyebrow lines are white, and the dark head is very prominent. The upper body is a mixture of brown and olive green, and the lower body is all dark brown. The tail is shorter and black. The mouth is also black. The feet are orange-yellow or yellow. The characteristics of the field are very obvious and not difficult to identify. China has yet to find similar species.

It inhabits broad-leaved and secondary forests, especially in the lower and middle layers of bamboo forests. Foraging on the branches of tree trunks often makes a slight tapping sound.

Appearance characteristics:

The male has a golden yellow forehead , a brownish maroon fore , and a brownish brown on the top of the head and pillow. The eyebrows are white, wide and short, from the eyes to the ear feathers. The eyes are dark gray and the bristles on the face are black. The back of the head is brownish maroon from the back of the neck to the upper back, and the surface of the back, shoulders and wings is olive green. The back and shoulders are slightly brown, and the waist is pure brown. The tail coverts and tails are black, the upper wings are olive green, and the wings are brownish white. The primary flight feathers are brown with white on the outer margins, the secondary flight feathers are also brown, the feather margins are olive yellow, and the inner secondary flight feathers are brown-olive. The underparts are dark brown from chin to undertail, and sometimes the chin is paler.

Females are similar to males, but their foreheads and fronts are brown instead of golden yellow.

The iris is red, and the exposed part around the eyes is dark red. The mouth is pale black, and the apex is lighter. The tarsal and toes are red and claw-flesh-colored.

Habitat:

Its natural habitats are broad-leaved forests, bamboo forests, sparse forests, shrublands and river beach reeds in low mountains and foothill plains below 2000 m above sea level.

Life Habits:

Often a single activity. It inhabits small trees and shrubs, and can also climb along the trunks to feed, and sometimes to the ground.

Migration: Resident birds.

Diet: Feeds on ants and various insects, but also eats other small animals such as worms.

Population status:

Global populations are not quantified, but are rare or common species in origin. The Population of China is extremely sparse.

Geographical distribution:

Native species distribution: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam.

In China, it is mainly distributed in the southwest, south and southeast of Yunnan, Guizhou Rongjiang, Xinhua and Guangxi Yaoshan.

Listed on the IUCN Red List: Non-Threatened Species (LC), 2012 assessment.
