Discover 9 new species! Over the past 8 years, Tibet has figured out more than 150 kinds of terrestrial wildlife resources

The reporter learned from the "Acceptance and Appraisal Meeting of the Results of the Second Terrestrial Wildlife Resources Survey in the Tibet Autonomous Region" that Tibet has completed the second terrestrial wildlife resources survey in 8 years, mastered the species, quantity, distribution, living environment and protection and management status of more than 150 important terrestrial wild vertebrates, and filled the gap in the investigation and research of biodiversity conservation and terrestrial wild animals in China.

In this survey, the populations of 157 important terrestrial wild vertebrates in Tibet were identified, distributed, protected and managed, and threatened factors. Up to now, the investigation has found 9 new species such as white-cheeked macaque, Chayu turbulence frog, Chen Tang turbulence frog, And Xishanyuan spearhead lady, 7 new species recorded in China such as hat-wearing langur, Dongge forest warbler and brown-fronted woodpecker, and 23 new species recorded in the Tibet Autonomous Region, so that the number of recorded species of terrestrial wild vertebrates in Tibet has reached 1072 species.

It is understood that more than 900 professionals participated in the investigation and completed the survey of the whole territory of Tibet in 8 years. In 18 geographical units, the experts set up 260 survey sample areas and 2162 survey sample lines, with a total length of 13,390 kilometers of survey lines, a total distance of hundreds of thousands of kilometers, and an actual survey area of 6,346 square kilometers.

The project team used infrared cameras to take a total of 16,000 GB of image data, and more than 1 million infrared camera photos have been identified; using unmanned aerial vehicles for species tracking and habitat analysis, with a flight time of 1,000 hours, the systematic investigation of terrestrial wild vertebrates throughout Tibet has been realized, and for the first time, the number, distribution, habitat status, and living environment of terrestrial wildlife resources have been accurately grasped, with obvious results.

Zong Ga, deputy director of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region: In the course of this survey, we have found some new species, some of which are newly recorded for the first time in China, and some of which are first recorded in the autonomous region. The overall population of wild animals, through this survey, found that the overall population is stable, and some populations have increased significantly. Through the resource survey of wild animals, Tibet has proved that Tibet has made gratifying achievements in ecological protection and restoration.
