Kunming, March 9 (Xinhua) -- On March 7, several ecological photographers photographed images of three brown-necked hornbills in a mountain forest of more than 2,000 meters above sea level in Yingjiang County, Dehong Dai Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Based on observations and images, the three brown-necked hornbills are 2 males and 1 female.

"The brown-necked hornbill is found in Yunnan and Tibet, and the well-documented images of Yunnan are images taken by photographers in Xishuangbanna in the mid-1980s." Han Lianxian, a professor at Southwest Forestry University, said, "In the early 1990s, we had records of villagers visiting Dehong, but there has been no video testimony, and the images taken this time fully prove that brown-necked hornbills are distributed in Yunnan." ”

The brown-necked hornbill is a protected animal at the national level and is listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Zeng Xiangle, chairman of the Yingjiang County Bird Watching Association, said that brown-necked hornbills usually live in cold mountainous areas above 1500 meters above sea level, and the next step of the association will further explore their distribution and breeding in Yingjiang County in order to better study and protect the species.

According to reports, Yingjiang County currently has a recorded number of bird species of 710 species. The double-horned hornbill, the corolla crease helmet hornbill, and the crowned hornbill all have stable observation records in Yingjiang County, and with the brown-necked hornbill recorded this time, only the white-throated hornbill is left to be found among the recorded hornbills in China. 【Editor: Tian Boqun】
