Qin Hao on "The Long Season": Appearance is the least important for actors|Interview

Directed by Xin Shuang and starring Fan Wei, Qin Hao and Chen Minghao, the 12-episode life suspense drama "Long Season" recently ended on Tencent Video, and the Douban score soared to 9.5, becoming the highest-rated domestic drama in the past five years. As soon as Gong Biao, the taxi driver played by Qin Hao, appeared, he shocked the audience with his pothole-faced and pot-bellied Northeast masters. After the series was broadcast to the end, after Gong Biao's complete character story line was presented, he became the most tear-jerking character in the whole show.

Qin Hao said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from the Beijing News that because he had created many "personality" roles before, he now wanted to play "common" things and play the people and things that happened around him. So it is easy not to take on suspense genre dramas, but "The Long Season" moves him precisely by the real sense of life, and Gong Biao is like a relative or friend around him. In addition, as a Northeasterner, he is too familiar with the era in the play, and he very much wants to show his father's life in the work. "It's more not to act, but to restore."

Coupled with the previous "Hidden Corner", Qin Hao and Xin Shuang's two collaborations are very subversive shapes. This time he played Gong Biao, he not only gained 20 pounds, but also needed to spend 6 hours a day doing special effects makeup, so that for a period of time after filming "The Long Season", many fans said that he gained a lot of weight, but he didn't care about it. Because beauty, ugliness, fat and thin can be used as criteria for finding objects, but cannot be used to evaluate an actor. "The ultimate goal of an actor is to complete the role, as long as the role you believe in and move, my purpose will be achieved." As for others saying that Qin Hao is fat and Qin Hao is ugly, I am not angry at all, because it is all to show the role."

Because of the sense of life and feelings for hometown, he took over "The Long Season"

Before "Long Season" found Qin Hao, he already had a new plan for his actor career, he no longer easily accepted suspense dramas, but wanted to act in life dramas. "Maybe it has something to do with my age and growth and other aspects, at this stage, I especially want to act in some very down-to-earth and life-like dramas, so I took "Dear Child". I've played too many personalized roles before, and I think with a certain accumulation, actors also have to play some common things, acting people and things that happen around us, making people feel like - oh, he's like my dad, like my uncle, or my classmates. I think this is the homework that actors need to do to a certain extent, and I am choosing scripts and roles according to my actor plan. ”

In fact, after "Undocumented Crime" in 2017, there were many suspense dramas to find, and at that time, out of the psychology of not wanting to repeat himself, he basically did not answer. Even "Hidden Corner" originally did not want to take it, producer Lu Jing, Xin Shuang and casting director Li Junting ran to Hengdian to "grind" with him, and finally grinded. "I'm also very grateful to them, it was a good collaborative process, and in the end what they said really made the audience see." After that, he found more suspense dramas, and almost all the scripts of suspense dramas on the market will be passed through in his hands. "Long Season" is Lu Jing, Xin Shuang and Li Junting went to the set again, waiting for him to finish work every day, talking to him about whether this drama is not the suspense drama that everyone imagines, and talking about the sense of life of this drama.

In the end, I decided to act in "The Long Season", in addition to the trust in Xin Shuang and the sense of life of the show itself, there is also an emotion for the hometown of Northeasterners. "Xin Shuang is also from the Northeast, and he talked to me about his feelings for the Northeast and his father, and I was very moved. I think as a Northeasterner, it is very meaningful to make such a drama that shows the life of my father. "Qin Hao's family lives in Tiexi District, Shenyang, and in the era presented in "The Long Season", he was in school, and many characters in the play had the shadows of their elders and relatives. Many times you don't have to imagine acting in this drama, because it is alive in his life, memory, and blood. "It's more not to act, but to restore."

The second cooperation is more tacit, and Gong Biao's appearance relies on fattening and special effect makeup

Collaborating with Xin Shuang again, Qin Hao felt that everyone's tacit understanding had deepened. There was a scene where Gong Biao asked Huang Liru to watch a movie and take the opportunity to confess, and Xin Shuang decided to pay tribute to Lou Ye before filming and arranged for these two to watch "Spring Breeze Drunken Night". Qin Hao specially checked, the shooting time of this film is not the same as the time point in the play, Xin Shuang believes that the time point is not important, the key is that they have to watch this film for the first time they fall in love. When he went to the cinema for real shooting, Xin Shuang gave him a piece of paper and wrote about this scene, saying that it had just been written, and it took more than 40 minutes. "After watching it, I was happy, this play is so well written, I don't even need to change 'of, land, and it's the most comfortable way of speaking for Northeasterners." Because he is a Northeasterner and I am also a Northeasterner in this play, our aesthetics and sense of humor are the same in many directions, so the things that come out of the cooperation are very tacit. ”

From "Hidden Corner" to "Long Season", Qin Hao changed from a bald Zhang Dongsheng to a fat Gong Biao with a pothole face, netizens ridiculed him for whether he had a handle in the hands of Xin Shuang director, the styling of the two collaborations was very subversive, and netizens called on him to quickly lose weight and return to the familiar Qin Hao. Qin Hao revealed that Xin Shuang had already designed Gong Biao's appearance when he came to him, and the two discussed how to make this character believable. "Gong Biao's appearance is typical of many Northeasterners around us, and diabetes was added during our filming. At that time, after I set my makeup, Xin Shuang was also pulling back, and adjusted to a point where he said: 'Well, this is too much like my uncle!' 'When filming, there was a person in the group performance who looked similar to Gong Biao, and even dressed the same. So we feel that this image is right, the closest to life and the most grounded. ”

Qin Hao first thought that it was best to be able to eat as fat as Gong Biao, but unfortunately, no matter how he ate it, his weight could no longer go up when he reached 160 pounds. In the end, relying on his own weight gain and the help of special effects makeup, he achieved the body shape and appearance of Gong Biao in the play. For the netizens' call to lose weight, he understands that it is completely out of love for himself. Because his mother also advised him to lose weight before, saying that being fat and photogenic is not spiritual. "But I'm an actor, and being photogenic is not spiritual, it's not the purpose of an actor, the purpose of an actor is to shape the character. Some characters are not spiritual, why should I be so spiritual, it's not that character. However, he then took on a drama set in 1944, when there were no fat people. He lost 20 pounds in more than two weeks and lost weight again.

Gong Biao's appearance has changed, his nature has not changed, and almost every scene has a scene that is hanging

In the play, Gong Biao mentioned Freud's "Analysis of Dreams" many times. Watching the movie and confessing to Huang Liru, he said: "Freud said that a healthy person can do two things. Work hard, and love people. In this area, I have basically achieved a good ride. Now it's a lover. "Huang Liru went to the dormitory to find him, he was preparing to go with Wang Xiang to arrest people, and hung "The Analysis of Dreams" as a protective gear on his chest; In the end, the relationship between the two came to an end, Huang Liru envied that he could always live in a dream, and he also responded with a Freud sentence: "What's bad, that dream is also a reflection of reality." Qin Hao revealed that this was a sentence he specially found from "The Analysis of Dreams" and added it now, and he felt that Gong Biao Ti Freud's matter could not be broken. Xin Shuang is also a particularly open director, giving actors a lot of room to play. And Qin Hao was in the state of Gong Biao's character at that time, and many of the things he said may be more accurate than the script.

Gong Biao's appearance when he was young.

In the "elderly trio" of Wang Xiang, Gong Biao and Ma Desheng in "The Long Season", Gong Biao is the one who has changed the most compared to when he was young. When he first arrived in Huagang, he was a well-mannered college student wearing a white shirt, and later tracked down the truth of the murder with Wang Xiang, he had become a pot-bellied taxi driver, bragging, unrealistic, and took the money saved by his wife to buy a car without saying hello... But Qin Hao said that what he is looking for during the performance is not the change of Gong Biao, but the point that connects his two life stages. "You can't split him into two people. Because of illness, and the ravages of time, his appearance can be varied, but this person's nature cannot change. I think the real suspense is that the audience has a feeling for Gong Biao in front of it, and it may be a completely different feeling when it sees it in the end. Seeing his so-called incongruity in the front, the irresponsible side of marriage, and after watching all the dramas of the next two eras, you will have a new understanding of him. ”

Many netizens said that they especially liked to watch the "elderly trio" chat bickering scene, which was both natural and humorous, without any traces of performance, as if they were such old friends who knew each other. Qin Hao said that the plays of these three people in the script have been written quite excitingly, plus there are two Shenyang people (Qin Hao and Fan Wei) among the three actors, and two are classmates of Chinese opera (Qin Hao and Chen Minghao), everyone is also familiar with life, and there are naturally many "hangings" in the play. For example, Ma Desheng and Gong Biao squatted to guard the driver of the deck car, first because of the barbecue to scare each other, and then Ma Desheng pulled away a batch of napkins to go to the toilet, Gong Biao said: "How big a butt with so many pieces of paper?" Ma Desheng replied: "Did I delay you to wipe your mouth?" "This paragraph is now hanging. Qin Hao said that in fact, he has almost every part of the scene. "Because you are playing such a northeasterner in that character situation, this kind of thing flows in the blood and can come out casually."

【Fresh Q&A】

"I don't really want to do this kind of thing to make a sequel"

Beijing News: Gong Biao surprised the audience as soon as he appeared, and many people did not recognize it as Qin Hao at first glance. What do you think of the beauty and ugliness of your characters?

Qin Hao: Maybe when you are young, you may feel that you want to act beautiful or whatever, but as you grow up as an actor, you know that appearance is the least important thing for an actor. Because the actor himself is fat and thin, beautiful and ugly, it does not determine whether you are a good actor. Everything that an actor has, fat and thin, beautiful and ugly, is for the character. I think everyone doesn't need to remember me, as long as you remember the role, everyone says that I am ugly Qin Hao, and I'm not angry at all; Say that I Qin Hao is fat, I am not sad, not sad, as long as everyone believes in this role, likes it, and is moved, my purpose has been achieved. Beauty and ugliness, fat and thin can be used as criteria for finding objects, but they cannot be used to evaluate an actor. The ultimate goal of an actor is to complete the role and serve the character.

Qin Hao on "The Long Season": Appearance is the least important for actors|Interview

Qin Hao believes that everything an actor has is to serve the role.

Beijing News: After "The Long Season", do you still want to act in life dramas in the future?

Qin Hao: Through this play, I am also learning, exploring and growing. I no longer distinguish dramas by genres such as suspense and life, or by characters. See if this character is alive, is it grounded, is it imaginary at first glance, or is it real at a glance? As an actor, of course, I want to shoot realistic dramas and play characters who are rooted in the lives around me.

Beijing News: You mentioned that you have played many "personality" characters, and you want to play "common" characters, when did this idea come about?

Qin Hao: There is no specific point in time, which may be a process that you must go through as an actor. I think that the career of an actor should be done in the performance of homework, but everyone's circumstances are different, and the order of doing homework is different. Some people may first make TV series and play common characters, and then go to make movies and play personality characters. Others, on the other hand, may first act in movies to shoot personality characters, and then slowly come back to shoot commonalities.

I love the career of acting, and I don't think I can be an actor from a utilitarian point of view. For example, I can't say that I'm making a suspense drama now, and I took all the suspense dramas behind and made all the money, which is not my plan for the career of an actor. My plan is to know that some plays are unflattering in the moment, but that is the homework that actors must do, and they should be acted.

Beijing News: When you say the homework for an actor to do, do you mean a role that has not been tried before?

Qin Hao: Right. You have to act to the heights you think you should reach. Or the type of character that has already been tried, and there is a new development, a new direction, then go and take a new adventure. Maybe my personality is like this, I don't want to repeat it, and I don't want to do this kind of thing like making a sequel, because I think it's nothing more than repeating the character again.

This may be due to my knowledge of the profession of an actor. I think the actors are not acting in the plot, but in the characters. Switching between different characters is what actors need to do. As for the plot, these are the screenwriter's job, and the ultimate goal of an actor is only one - to shape the character.
