On April 28, in a corner of the ancient city of St. Gallen in northeastern Switzerland, founded in the 7th century, twilight falls and with a drizzle, hundreds of people gather in the playground to wait for the traditional European circus performance.

There are also many local residents who walk into the concert hall more than 100 meters away. In this Baroque building, a classical Chinese music concert called "Music Without Boundaries" is blending into St. Gallen's weekend night.

The opening song "Spring River Flower and Moon Night" played by the ensemble of pipa, flute and erhu is simple and elegant, with a far-reaching artistic conception, attracting the audience to listen attentively. Before the performance, pipa player Yang Jing gently introduced the audience in German to this classic Chinese piece of music with the same name as the representative poem of the Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ruoxu.

In the evening, the Chinese folk music trio of three Chinese performers, Yang Jing, Zhang Zhenfang and Chen Qinglun, also used a variety of traditional Chinese instruments to present 13 classic Chinese songs such as "Ambush on Ten Sides", "Turtle Dance" and "Su Sanqi Solution" to the audience of St. Gallen.

Yang Jing's pipa solo "Ambush on Ten Sides" is high-pitched and exciting, pushing the atmosphere of the scene to a climax. "Su Sanqi Solution" is the trio's specially choreographed track for this performance, which brilliantly blends elements of Chinese folk music, Peking Opera Nian Bai and Western rap music, which will interest the audience.

The concert's encore repertoire won lasting applause with the well-known Swiss folk song "Life Proud" from local audiences.

"Music knows no boundaries," Florian Schaibel, concert organizer and producer and music director of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, told reporters. ”

He said that he is willing to organize performers of different music genres from all over the world to perform in St. Gallen, so that people can listen, enjoy different music, and learn about diverse cultures, and this Chinese classical concert was born from this idea.

Local audience member Regula Koenig told reporters: "Ambush on Ten Sides made me feel like I heard thousands of troops fighting fiercely on the battlefield. She said that Chinese music has such a long history, "it surprised and moved us."

A Chinese female audience member said: "It was very exciting to hear familiar music in a foreign country, and I also saw that the local audience was very fascinated. Although the history of each country and nation is different, music is connected, civilizations can learn from each other, and cultures can be exchanged. ”

The concert has ended, and two local audiences are still lingering in front of traditional Chinese instruments on stage, sometimes taking pictures and sometimes gently tapping the gong, which makes the sound of Chinese reverberate over the ancient Swiss city for a long time.
