The drama "Home Guest" was created from 2015, with him as the screenwriter, directed by the national first-class director Zhou Xiaoqian, and co-starring national first-class actors Zhou Yemang, Song Yining and Qian Cheng. The original intention of the play was to write a play about the fate and living conditions of contemporary Chinese intellectuals. At the same time, this play also pays attention to the living conditions of the elderly, especially showing a generation of intellectuals who have experienced China's reform and opening up, the relationship with the state and society when they are old, thus reflecting the changes in the fate of the entire country, and the change of a generation's way of thinking led to the improvement of living standards, which are worth leaving in the long river of time. He said that although the play shows the life relationship of three people, it is more about a person and a country, as well as the connection with an era, and it is also related to the future life state of young people. Although the play is a comedy in terms of form, it also contains a tragic component, allowing the audience to think deeply in a relaxed atmosphere. Although there are only three characters in the play, it shows seven different states of life, like a "multi-prism". At the press conference, Yu Rongjun also talked about his personal thinking about the theater. He said that theater pays attention to diversified expressions, and has always been multi-meaning, and different audiences have different acquisitions and unlimited possibilities. After experiencing the world-class epidemic in 2020, the audience's entry into the theater is becoming more and more luxurious, the theater is becoming more and more indispensable, and at the same time, people's happiness when they enter the theater is more and more intense. This has been followed by a more diversified theater presentation, including cross-border, cross-media, immersive theater and other forms, and more new theater formats have emerged, enhancing the dynamics of theater. The drama "The Guest" is different from the traditional realist theatrical works and has a certain absurd component. It breaks through the imagination of the audience to some extent, and in the process of watching the play, the feedback of the audience will directly affect the performance of the play, so that the audience will also become part of the performance. He said: "As long as there is an audience, as long as there is our unremitting efforts, the theater will always exist at all times." Finally, he expressed the hope that art practitioners can bring a variety of different and even strange theater forms to the audience, so that our theater art will be more abundant.

Before the first round of performances in 2017, "Home guest" has carried out a variety of activities such as script reading, drama workshops, audience viewing meetings, etc., and after extensively soliciting opinions from all aspects of society, the first round of presentation is carried out after polishing and processing. The play began touring in 2018, participated in activities such as "Shanghai Jing'an Drama Valley" and "China Original Drama Invitation Exhibition", and received rolling funding from the National Arts Fund in 2019. At the same time, the drama was successfully adapted in Japanese and Korean versions on the basis of the Chinese version, and was staged in Osaka, Japan at the end of 2019, and the Korean version was performed online in 2020. In May 2021, the drama "House Guest" won the 24th "Cao Yu Script Award".
