The play tells the story of Duan Yingjiu, as an excellent investigator of the Xiazhou Municipal State Security Bureau, who has always been dedicated to the cause of national security. In a seemingly ordinary disappearance case investigation, Duan Yingjiu sensitively smelled a different smell. The Xiazhou Municipal State Security Bureau immediately made a decision, set up the No. 3 Task Force, and appointed Duan Yingjiu as the temporary leader. Duan Yingjiu summoned colleagues from the old department such as Dafeng and Lao Wei, and also transferred new people such as Huang Hai, Zhu Hui, and Ding Xiaohe, forming three generations of national security cadres and policemen, who used their professional skills to strike hard and peel back the cocoon, and found an old case more than ten years ago. According to the characteristics of each suspect, Duan Yingjiu formulated a corresponding action plan, codenamed "Operation Phoenix". Duan Yingjiu and his partners used their wisdom and courage to desperately suppress a few spies who were still surviving. The play tells the story of a seemingly simple suicide case, behind which hides a huge secret that cannot be spoken, in order to uncover this secret, a group of people have gone through seven years, paid countless prices, and even gambled their lives. Jiang Yang, a prosecutor who once had a great future and was stable, but was imprisoned for three years for bribery and corruption, once again appeared in the public eye as his huddled body in a suitcase, and it was Zhang Chao, a famous local lawyer, who transported his body. The case attracted the attention of the whole city, and the criminal police Yan Liang intervened in charge of the case and confronted Zhang Chao head-on. Zhang Chao admitted to the crime, but when he accepted the court's verdict, he retracted his confession on the spot and produced alibi evidence, and the case fell into a dead end.
