According to a number of Japanese media on the evening of April 2, Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto died in a hospital in Tokyo on March 28 at the age of 71.
Ryuichi Sakamoto is a well-known Japanese musician, composer and actor who studied classical music from an early age, graduated from the graduate school of Tokyo University of the Arts, majored in electronic music and ethnic music, and formed the synth-rock band YMO with Harutomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, who had a seminal influence on the acid house and techno movements in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
In 1988, he became the first Japanese to win the Academy Award for Best Original Score for "The Last Emperor", and since then his works have also included "The Revenant", "Namhansanseong", "Your Face", "The First Incense".

Ryuichi Sakamoto revealed in 2021 that he had rectal cancer and gave a farewell performance at the end of last year for "perhaps the last live concert". Although he continued to fight cancer in his later years, he devoted himself to music creation until the end of his life.
