Liao, 45, pleaded to a charge of knowingly providing false information. He allegedly gave false information during an interrogation before the National Court in July 2018 that a cream polo shirt and red blouse in the maid's box belonged to him, but this was not the case.

Liyani, a 49-year-old maid, worked as a maid for the Liao family from 2007 to 2016.

In March 2016, the Indonesian maid was asked to do housework at Mr. Liao's home, as well as clean his office in another location.

She was unhappy with being asked to do extra work.

The Liao family terminated her employment in October 2016 and gave her two hours to pack her belongings into three boxes.

Liyani claimed to complain to the Ministry of Labour before returning to Indonesia.

She had asked Liao to pay for transporting the boxes. The day after she left, the Liao family opened the box.

They reported it to the police, claiming that some of the items in the boxes belonged to the family.

Liyani was arrested in December 2016 while returning to Singapore in search of work. She was charged with theft, one of which said she had stolen items belonging to Liao Kai Long with a total value of S$46,856 (exchange rate: 1 Singapore dollar ≈ 5.1688 yuan), including 120 pieces of clothing.

She was later charged with multiple counts of theft and was tried in the District Court from April 2018 to March 2019.

During the trial, Liao testified that a red blouse and a polo shirt belonged to him. Even when Liani's defense attorney questioned him and pointed out that the shirts did not fit his figure, Ms. Liao insisted they were his.

When Liani's defense attorney asked Liao when he got the creamy polo shirt, Liao replied: "I don't remember which shirts I wore, and I don't track when I used to wear a shirt when I'm not wearing it." ”

He said he didn't recognize the brand, and when Liani's defense lawyer told him it was a women's cream polo shirt, Ms. Liao replied, "Yes."

However, he disagreed that the shirt belonged to Ms. Liani.

When he knew that the shirt did not suit his figure, Liao Qilong disagreed.

When asked if he had a habit of wearing women's clothing, Liao replied: "Sometimes. ”

Later, due to a dispute over ownership of the clothes involved, the District Court amended the charges and removed the disputed clothing charges, and Liani was not found guilty of the charges involving the disputed clothing.

The district court later found Ms Liyani guilty of other theft charges and sentenced her to 26 months in prison in 2019.

She was acquitted in 2020 after an appeal by the High Court.

Following Liyani's acquittal, Liu announced her resignation from public service and commercial roles at Changi Airport Group, Surbana Jurong, Temasek Foundation and Temasek International.

Subsequently, Liyani further asked to investigate the prosecution's misconduct in her case and applied to the court for a compensation order, estimating her loss at around S$71,000 over four years.

The High Court dismissed her application, saying she had not succeeded in proving that the prosecution's indictment was absurd. On the contrary, there is sufficient evidence at the outset of the proceedings that there is a case suitable for trial in court.

Liao will be sentenced on April 14.
