Why was the ancestral land of the Serbs occupied by the Albanians? Can Kosovo really become independent?

author:Blue and white flags

Speaking of this place in Kosovo, many people must know that Nagada is the pain of Serbs, when we were beaten in the Kosovo war, we also suffered from pond fish. Then many people may not understand, Yugoslavia was divided into so many countries, and even Montenegro chose to leave Serbia, so why did the Serbs grit their teeth and not let Kosovo go? This article is mainly about this matter.

Why was the ancestral land of the Serbs occupied by the Albanians? Can Kosovo really become independent?

(1) Kosovo, the land of Serbia

The Kingdom of Serbia, the first state established by the Yugoslavs, originated in Kosovo, so Kosovo was regarded as the "cradle of the nation" by Serbs and even Yugoslavs. Kosovo is also a testimony to Serbia's glorious history, with former Serbian President Milosevic once saying that "Kosovo is the pure centre of Serbian history, culture and memory". Kosovo is therefore an integral part of Serbs.

Why was the ancestral land of the Serbs occupied by the Albanians? Can Kosovo really become independent?

Kosovo was originally an autonomous province of Serbia, with an area of 10,887 square kilometers (slightly smaller than the mainland city of Tianjin), accounting for 12% of the entire area of Serbia. In the administrative division of Serbia, Kosovo is divided into 5 oblasts, and after independence, Kosovo is divided into 7 oblasts. Serbia is one of the 13 Slavic national states, while Kosovo is not a Slavic national state, and the Albanians, the majority ethnic group of Kosovo, are descendants of the Illyrians, not the Guslavs. At the beginning of the twentieth century, about 30 per cent of Kosovo's population was ethnic Serbs. As a result of ethnic conflicts, inter alia, Serbs have been leaving Kosovo, while the proportion of Albanians has been increasing, and the proportion of Serbs in Kosovo's population is now below 10 per cent.

Kosovo's lead and zinc reserves account for half of Serbia's, coal reserves account for 60% of Serbia's, and the second largest coal mine in Europe and the richest lead-zinc mine in Europe are in Kosovo. Since the end of the Kosovo war in 1999, Kosovo has become de facto independent and is nominally part of Serbia. Kosovo, which declared its independence in February 2008, has been recognized by nearly 100 UN member states, with China, Russia, India, Indonesia, Greece, Romania, Spain, Ukraine, Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries clearly stating that they will not recognize Kosovo's independence.

  1. What does the future hold for Kosovo?

So what does the future hold for Kosovo? The answer is simple, that is, it is nominally part of Serbia, but in fact independent. For this situation, the Serbs can barely accept it, at least they have not really lost power and humiliated the country, lost their inside, and did not lose face. And the Kosovars can also accept it, after all, they are happy with their substantive independence, and the title can be temporarily dispensed with, anyway, it will not affect their own life. And for the EU, this is better, after all, they do not have to accept poor Kosovo, and they can also disgust Serbia.

However, these situations are based on the current pattern, that is, the EU is strong, Serbia is weak, if one day, Serbia is strong again, and the EU is weak, then Serbia is bound to make a big deal in Kosovo, and then it is destined to be a bloody storm. But once Kosovo really drives out all Serbian forces, then it will be difficult for Serbia to take it back.
