Portugal finished first in the group after azerbaijan's victory, two points ahead of Serbia, which was forced to draw 1-1 by the Republic of Ireland.

Third-place Luxembourg have been performing well in this group, but they now find themselves seven points behind leaders Portugal, although there is still a game to go. However, Serbia remains in their sights, with a gap of only five points between third and second place.

The Republic of Ireland's qualifying rounds have not been the best so far, but the draw with Serbia gave them momentum as they entered the final few races of the campaign.

Azerbaijan is still at the bottom of the group at one point.

Spain beat Georgia 4-0 to top Group B after Sweden – their position as group leaders has been further strengthened after the recent matchday.

The Scandinavians lost 2-1 to Greece in their last match, while Spain beat Kosovo, which qualified for the tournament only for its debut during the 2018 World Cup, now falling to fourth place.

Group C opened up when Switzerland held a 0-0 draw between Italy and Italy.

But on the most recent matchday, the Blues extended their lead at the top to six points, with they beating bottom-out Lithuania 5-0 while the Swiss were deadlocked in a stalemate with Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland travelled to Switzerland in October for an emergency meeting.

France have struggled to find their best form in this campaign, but in a crucial win against Finland they led by seven points at the top of the group.

Didier Deschamps' side now has a record of three wins and three draws in six games in Group D.

Ukraine and Finland have not lost everything, though, and both are playing against France as they look to close the gap to the top of the table.

< h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > group E</h1>

Belgium topped the FIFA World Rankings and took a further lead in Group E after beating Belarus in six games with five wins. They are now nine points ahead of the Czech Republic, which won't be able to play again until October.

After a stalemate with Estonia, Wales' automatic promotion hopes have taken a major hit.

Denmark continued their match at Euro 2020, where they maintained a perfect record during world cup qualifiers, winning their sixth consecutive game to beat Israel 5-0. They are now just two wins away from group top and World Cup final spots.

Scotland (11 points), Israel (10 points) and Austria (7 points) formed the pursuit team, but Steve Clark's side finished second in the group stage with an impressive 1-0 victory in Vienna. Play against Israel at Hampden Park next October.

< h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > G group</h1>

Group G proved too nervous in six games. The Netherlands (13 points) led on goal difference after a 6-1 win over Turkey, while Norway (also had 13 points) beat Gibraltar 5-1 to keep pace with the Dutch side.

Turkey's fiasco hit their chances, but they continued to pursue with an 11-point advantage, while Montenegro's 0-0 draw with Latvia left them with plenty of things to do to make up for their lead.

< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > group H</h1>

Croatia and Russia are still locked in at 13 points, but Croatia now lead Group H on goal difference after the last 3-0 win over Slovenia.

Russia's 2-0 win over Malta meant a four-point gap between the top two and fourth-place Slovakia, while Slovenia trailed by another two points to fourth.

< h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > the first group</h1>

England gave up their perfect record in Poland after conceding a late equaliser but still led Albania by four points and five points ahead of Poland.

Hungary remains in the play-offs.

< h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > group J</h1>

Germany led in Group J and extended their lead after a 4-0 win over Iceland, while the closest opponent, Armenia, was controlled by Liechtenstein at the bottom.

Romania and North Macedonia are still eligible for the promotion, but neither side has been able to take the initiative as they did not score in the match.

UEFA teams have a total of 13 places in the final. The 55 teams were divided into five groups of five and five groups of six.

The winners of Group 10 will automatically qualify for the finals, which will be played for the first time in November and December 2022 to avoid the sweltering heat of the Middle East.

The other three spots will be contested between the 10 group runners-up and the two highest-ranked teams in the national league that have not yet finished runners-up or runners-up.

The 12 teams will be divided into three play-off paths, each with four countries to determine the final three European spots. The format will consist of two knockout rounds from which three other teams qualify.
