During the Ming Jiajing period (1522-1566), Zhang Hongyi, a jinshi of Qingxi (QingcunGang) town southeast of Zhangze, moved to zhangjiakou in the east of the town to settle down. Subsequently, the Zhang family became a large household within the square circle. In March of the twenty-seventh year of the Ming Dynasty (1599), Pan Dongkunji, a descendant of the Pan clan, raised the Zhongyi Temple (in the south of the town), and a monument was erected in front of the temple. Zhang Hongyi's descendant Zhang Yi was inscribed with the seal "Zhang Zezhen". Wu Xiaolianyun: "'Zhang Ze' means that there must be a Zhang surname living here, because of 'Zhang Zhao', and the text is 'Zhang Ze'. ”

The east of the town crosses the Lishi Bridge, which is called Yuanmen Street. In the seventh year of Ming Chongzhen (1634), Jiang Eryang (Zi Zhizhi, Zengguan Hunan Province, Zhizhou) lived here, and the two ends of the street repaired the gates and illuminated the walls, hence the name of the street. During the prosperity of the Jiang surname family, it was known as "Jiang Banzhen". Jiang's congruent Zi Ping was a hero of the anti-Qing dynasty at the end of the Ming Dynasty. He buried his soldiers and weapons behind his home, and fled to Fujian to continue to protect the Tang King against the Qing. In the northeast of the street, there is the East Hidden Zen Temple, which was originally built by the Peng family in the Ming Dynasty, called the Peng Family Temple. After the decline of the Peng clan, incense was offered by the Chiang clan.

At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the market was in the eastern section of the town, east of the Zhongyi Temple and north of huijiao bridge, all of which were places where trade flourished. In the second year of Qing Shunzhi (1645), Jinshan Camp set up the Zhangze Defense District and sent a member of the General Staff to administer the four major floods of Zhangyan, Tinglin, Zhangze and Guantang. Zhang Ze's barracks were originally built on the Shijia Bridge of Santu Hongziwei. In the eighteenth year of Daoguang (1838), the Shantang and Xizi Bureau were set up; in the twenty-third year (1843), the Ji Baby Bureau was set up. In the second year of Guangxu (1876), Songjiang's alternate Dao Wang Weixi set up a salt shop; in the thirteenth year (1887), he set up a township temple; and in the twenty-fourth year (1898), he set up a patrol bureau.

In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Zhangze Township was established. In the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929), Zhangze District was established. In the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932), Zhangze District was abolished and the Kuomintang Songjiang County Third Division was retained. The following year, the town was the seat of the Kuomintang Songjiang County Third Division. In May 1949, Songjiang County was liberated and the Zhangze Town People's Government was established. In 1954, the People's Government of Zhangze Town was abolished and changed to the jurisdiction of Pailou Township, and the town was the seat of the Pailou Township Government. In 1957, the district was withdrawn and merged with the township to establish Zhangze Township; in 1958, Zhangze People's Commune was established; in February 1984, the zhangze township system was restored. In February 1994, the township was withdrawn to establish Zhangze Town. The market towns are all the seats of Zhangze Township, Commune, Township and Town Institutions. In January 2001, Zhangze Town was merged with Yexie Town, and Zhangze Ji Town became a community under the jurisdiction of Yexie Town.
