World Oral Health Day is the largest global oral health campaign held annually on 20 March. This year's World Oral Health Day marks the last year of a three-year campaign called Proud for Healthy Mouths. In 2023, we highlight the importance of paying attention to oral health at every stage of life and call on people: pay attention to oral health and have a bright smile for life.
01 Oral health for infants and young children
Babies communicate through sounds, smiles, facial expressions, and these new and exciting moments are all relevant to their mouths. It is important to protect the child's mouth from birth.
● At least twice a day, gently wipe your baby's gums with a clean, damp gauze or towel, especially after feedings and before bedtime.
● If possible, breastfeed as much as possible. Make sure there are no sugary drinks, juices or sugary milk/water in your bottle.
● Avoid falling asleep with bottles in your baby's mouth and avoid sucking nipples or bottles between meals.
● After erupting your first tooth, see your dentist regularly.
●After you start brushing, brush your teeth twice a day with a rice-sized fluoride toothpaste.
●After the child is two and a half years old, the pacifier needs to be removed.
02 Oral health for children and adolescents
Children's baby teeth play a vital role in nutrient intake, trying new flavors, starting to speak, and growing and developing. The sooner you develop good oral hygiene habits, the better, depending on the guidance of the parent/caregiver.
Supervise your child to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste until they are able to brush their teeth properly on their own. Children ages 3 to 6 years old use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste daily.
● See your dentist regularly to check if your child's teeth are growing normally.
● Encourage children to choose healthy foods and avoid sugary snacks and drinks.
● When performing contact sports, make sure children wear protective dental trays to protect their teeth.
03Adult oral health
A healthy mouth, a healthy you. Moreover, the mouth plays a big role in everyday life: enjoying delicious food, communicating with people, laughing with family and friends...
Every day, we use our mouths in different ways, and a healthy mouth can obviously make our lives more enjoyable.
● Practice good oral hygiene, brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes and use fluoride toothpaste.
● See your dentist regularly for oral examination and dental cleaning.
● Reduce sugar, eat more fruits and vegetables, and eat a balanced diet.
● Do not smoke or chew betel nut.
● Drink less.
● When performing contact sports and cycling, please use protective equipment such as protective dental trays to reduce the risk of injury.
