A phone call from his hometown came with bad news, and Teacher Zhou Guangshen died of illness. Although Teacher Zhou has been seriously ill for a while, his departure still makes me very sad, and my mood cannot be calm for a long time.
Ms. Zhou was my homeroom teacher when I was in high school, and even more so, my mentor, which had a decisive impact on my life. The feelings between us are very deep, not only is the relationship between teachers and students, in the words of Teacher Zhou, there is also a "sense of longing", not relatives are better than relatives. This year's Spring Festival, I went to see him twice during a brief visit to my parents, and I took a group photo together, but I didn't expect that this would become a farewell. Anyway, I had to go back and give him one last ride. Arrange the work of the unit and hurriedly board the plane back home. This is the first time in my 39 years as a soldier that I have returned to my hometown in Fujian to attend a memorial service. At the memorial service, many of Mr. Zhou's students from all over the country came, and many people rushed from Hong Kong and overseas, which caused a lot of repercussions in the county. After the memorial service, the county wanted to write a collection of essays in memory of Teacher Zhou, and I also wrote some words to express my condolences.

Teacher Zhou is an Indonesian returned overseas Chinese. In the eighth year after the founding of New China (1957), the three brothers of Teacher Zhou returned to China to participate in national construction. In 1960, Teacher Zhou applied for the Mathematics Department of Fujian Normal University, although the results were very good, but because he was a bit stuttering, he did not pass the interview, and he was in love with the cause of education, so he cried and repeatedly talked to the examiner, and finally was able to enroll. After graduating from university, he did not go to the city, but came to Chen Dai Middle School (later renamed Yunxiao No. 2 Middle School) as a teacher, and worked for more than 20 years, until the end of the 1980s, when he was transferred to other schools. Teacher Zhou has simple and profound feelings for the party, the country and the people, and has devoted his life to the cause of education. He is an advanced model on the education front, and has been successively rated as a national outstanding teacher, a national outstanding class teacher, and a national outstanding returned overseas Chinese, and his deeds have been publicized in newspapers and periodicals such as People's Daily and Guangming Daily.
I knew Mr. Zhou when I was in junior high school at Chen Dai Middle School. Although our school was a rural middle school, the school leaders at that time emancipated their minds, dared to dare to do things, and also had great vision and courage, inviting the best local intellectuals, including those who were criticized during the Cultural Revolution and who stood on the sidelines, to teach. In junior high school, I was determined to learn to be like this, I worked hard in all aspects, and I became the class leader in the second year of junior high school. At that time, Mr. Zhou led the school's first high school class. The class he led was full of vitality, whether it was academic performance, or other aspects, it was very outstanding, and it has always been an advanced class in the school, which makes me particularly envious. Perhaps it was because I was already famous that I attracted the attention of Teacher Zhou, and when I graduated from junior high school, Teacher Zhou came to me and wanted me to go to his class. At that time, there were many negative things in society, but in our school, especially in our class, everyone listened to the party's words, longed for communism, pursued hard work, was helpful and dedicated, advocated spotless, and everyone grew up healthily in this pure land.
Anyone who has come into contact with Teacher Zhou knows that he is a person with great ideals and beliefs and who does not care about his career. At that time, he often quoted a sentence by Yang Shuicai, called "The car does not fall, just push, as long as there is still a breath to do the revolution." This is indeed a true portrayal of him. His dedication to the cause is almost obsessive, and his dedication to the country can be described as uncomplaining and regretless. When Teacher Zhou was admitted to college, due to excessive use of the brain, he suffered from severe neurasthenia, "often couldn't sleep all night at night, and was afraid when he saw the bed", but in the daytime, he was alive and well. What is holding him up? It is a powerful spiritual force, an infinite love for the cause of education, and a diligent pursuit of cultivating outstanding talents. His words and deeds are very admirable, and they also deeply infect and influence us students.

Teacher Zhou is a high-achieving student who graduated from the mathematics major, and the mathematics class is very good, but in order to respond to the call of the state to study engineering and agriculture, he took the initiative to carry out agricultural experiments such as rice, and opened an agricultural experimental class for the whole school. He also led the students to plant sugarcane, changed the traditional planting method, dug a lot of large pits of about two meters, filled them with a lot of farm manure, and introduced Cuban varieties of sugarcane, because of the emphasis on science and intensive farming, the yield was much higher than that of the nearby people, and the quality was also very good. Teacher Zhou often warned us that these sugarcane surnames are "public" and not "private", and they must not be eaten secretly. One of the students couldn't help but steal it, and Teacher Zhou severely criticized him and took the opportunity to educate everyone on "spotless" and "a thousand-mile embankment, collapsed in an ant nest". This incident touched us a lot and left me with a long memory. After graduating from high school, I went to the countryside as a "Zhiqing" and also managed the sugarcane forest, but never ate public sugarcane. The captain of the production team praised: "If everyone had been like Shaohua, communism would have been realized long ago." In fact, our classmates were able to do just that at the time.
Being a person who is beneficial to the people like Lei Feng is Teacher Zhou's persistent pursuit and his life creed. At that time, there was a unit in the station who went to the school to carry out activities. A comrade accidentally dropped his watch into the pit. Teacher Zhou knew that he didn't say a word after the second, so he jumped into the waist-deep pit and worked hard to fish it out. Many things like this remain in the memory of students.

Teacher Zhou values the students' affairs more than anything else. At that time, some students had difficulties at home and could not afford to pay tuition; Some family elements are "not good", think that children are useless to learn, and want them to go to farming early, and some parents are still very resolute. In this case, Teacher Zhou has been doing work hard many times and helping to pay tuition fees, and some boarders even help to solve the problem of eating and living. These students know that the learning opportunities are not easy to come by, they are particularly diligent and studious, and after they go to the society, they also repay the society with love, which is widely recognized and developed well.

Most of Mr. Zhou's salary is spent on students. At that time, the whole country was poor, not to mention the vast rural families. At that time, in order to facilitate schooling, many students who were far away from home went to the school to board. The school cafeteria pays three cents for a dish, but there are still many students who can't afford it. Once, the school leader said at the teacher-student conference of the whole school: "A dish is only three cents, such a big bowl, so much oil, everyone still has opinions." Every time I think about it, I feel a bitter feeling. Seeing that the children were dishes and malnourished, Teacher Zhou opened a small vegetable field in front of the dormitory to grow peppers, and used his salary to buy pork, make chili fried minced meat, and fry a large plate each time, so that the students could eat together. At that time, the locals did not eat spicy, but they could not resist the temptation, and they ate one by one grinning, and that scene and that delicacy were still not forgotten.
In Teacher Zhou's heart, class is more important than anything else. One day, Teacher Zhou was about to give a lesson to the students. The director of the county education bureau called: "Old Zhou, your lover gave birth to a difficult child in the county hospital, and he will have surgery immediately, and he needs your signature." Teacher Zhou was stunned at first, and then said, "I have to finish the class, you can sign it for me." Hang up the phone when you're done... If this happened today, many people may feel unreasonable and difficult to understand, but in that era and generation, the most heavy thing in their hearts was the party, the country, and the cause. Teacher Zhou's lover, Teacher Wu Meiying, understands Teacher Zhou very well. She is also an Indonesian returned overseas Chinese, and Ms. Zhou is a college classmate, and she has been a teacher at Zhangpu Duxun Middle School dozens of miles away for a long time. She said to me, "We're both workaholics, we both love kids, and it's education that binds us together." ”
In order to comprehensively cultivate and exercise students, Teacher Zhou requires everyone to write at least one diary per week, and he carefully reviews each diary, and recommends it to the whole class. It took up a lot of his energy, but it benefited us a lot. At that time, everyone read very little, the text foundation was generally poor, and it was very intimidating to write something, but through writing a diary, the ability to express words was improved, and some students also fell in love with literature and developed the habit of writing something.
In order to fully understand the situation of students, Teacher Zhou often uses weekends and winter and summer vacations to visit students' homes. Some students live in mountain villages far from schools and do not have access to roads. Teacher Zhou had to walk more than ten miles of mountain road to reach the student's home. When I got home, I was nagging again, helping with farm work, and staying in the students' very simple home when the time was late. Every holiday, Teacher Zhou has to run the students' homes. Many parents and Teacher Zhou are very familiar with each other and have become good friends. I heard that now the parents' meeting basically replaces the teacher's home visit, and some teachers hold the parent-teacher meeting to teach parents a lesson. Whenever I hear this situation, I think of Teacher Zhou and have many emotions in my heart!
For such a teacher, everyone naturally remembers it. Every time you go home to visit your family, visiting Teacher Zhou is a must-do thing for everyone. I have met many students from various classes who visitEd Mr. Zhou. Teacher Zhou's family encountered any difficulties, and everyone helped Zhang Luo. Teacher Zhou was seriously ill several times, and everyone told each other, tried their best to contact the medical treatment, and helped care day and night. After his death, even wearing clothes and shaving were done by his classmates. Seeing all this, the doctors and nurses were all moved, saying that they had never seen such a student, never seen such a teacher.

I was the "student head" in my class, and I was one of the few who joined the army. Perhaps because of this, Teacher Zhou has always cared for me!
In the two and a half years of high school, he was the secretary of the regiment branch in the class, and he also held important positions in several organizations of the school. It is often necessary to organize everyone to carry out various activities, write various manuscripts, speak in front of the teachers and students of the whole school, and as the only student representative of the whole school, go to the garrison with the teachers to tell stories, lead the team to the nearby rural areas to conduct social investigations, go to the village of Dashanshan to hold night schools, and so on. At the beginning, many activities were taught to me by Teacher Zhou, and many of the speeches he carefully wrote and tirelessly helped me revise. Because of the pressure and motivation, I always humbly ask for advice and study eagerly. At that time, only cadres could subscribe to the "Reference News", and I went to Teacher Zhou every day to read the newspaper, which was read for decades without interruption, and had a great impact on me. During that period, I was comprehensively trained in organizational management, oral expression, writing, etc., and my ability and quality improved rapidly, laying a solid foundation for my lifelong growth and progress. It can be said that when I left the second middle school, I was already full of confidence.
In 1975, after graduating from high school, I changed from an urban hukou to a rural hukou, went to the countryside to work as a farmer in the Dainan Brigade of Chen Dai Commune, and began a new life. At that time, with the glory of the school and the high hopes of Teacher Zhou, I was full of passion and hoped to create a new world in a new environment. In those days, I worked really hard, and I seemed to have endless energy. Participate in the labor of the production team, and do tiring and heavy work. Later, I participated in the organization of the sea around the sea to create fields, and while I worked, I did propaganda and agitation work, and made the construction site in full swing, and everyone's enthusiasm was great. I also took the opportunity to mobilize everyone to come to night school, I made up my own teaching materials, "cameo" teachers, gave lectures to everyone from 7 pm to 9 pm, there were many people who came to participate in the study, everyone was very enthusiastic, and every night they asked for classes. After 9 p.m., I went to the commune radio room to broadcast again, and the leaders really trusted me, from draft selection, writing to broadcasting, I was all covered by myself. Every day, I was "open-eyed and busy until the lights went out", but life was very full, and I really didn't feel tired. The brigade and the production team wanted to give me high work points, but I did not agree. At that time, I thought that life should be meaningful, and living should contribute to society, and I really did not pay attention to the reward. My alma mater and Teacher Zhou have also been concerned about me, hired me as a member of the Second Middle School Workers' and Peasants' And Soldiers' Lecturer Group, and returned to the school many times to make reports. Because of the sense of truth, it was welcomed by everyone. The dialect allegro book "The Great Battle of Chen Bird Mountain", which I wrote reflecting the opening of the mountains and fields, has been circulated for a long time among the students and villagers.
During the period of going to the countryside, almost every Saturday night, I ran to Teacher Zhou, and he went to the south of the sea and the north of the "Kan Dashan", hungry to eat the biscuits that the teacher usually did not want to eat, not polite at all, a chat until late at night, and did not return, and the teacher squeezed in his small wooden bed will be one night... What an unforgettable time it was!
In 1976, I was honorably enlisted in the army. In the first two years, Teacher Zhou and I had to communicate with a letter almost every week or so. Four or five pages of paper, three or four thousand words, talk about ideals, talk about ideas, talk about life, talk about life, talk about everything, talk about everything. At that time, there were not many things to read, and Teacher Zhou's letter was my rare spiritual food, and I read each letter repeatedly. In order to write a better reply to Teacher Zhou, I used it every time to learn first, search the intestines and scrape the stomach, and invisibly got the exercise and improvement. Teacher Zhou's letter is still my model of writing, I became a calligraphy lover, and Teacher Zhou is my real Mr. Enlightenment.
After arriving in the army, I was also as studious and enterprising as Teacher Zhou, and I had a desperate spirit, which soon had an impact. As the only soldier representative, I joined the study and theory tour organized by the army and gave reports to various divisions and regiments. At that time, the front page of the Fujian Daily devoted a special report on this, and among them, the report on me, the new soldier, occupied a large part of the page. To this end, Chen Dai Middle School also made a special decision to "learn from Chen Shaohua". I later heard that whenever I mentioned this matter, Teacher Zhou was particularly happy.
Yes, living up to the cultivation of my alma mater and Teacher Zhou has always been a powerful driving force for me to be proactive and unremitting.
In 1978, I took the entrance examination for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ordnance Engineering College, because of the outstanding moral integrity, after graduation I was selected to stay in the college as the leader of the cadet district, the nature of the work is similar to the class teacher. In those days, every bit of my work, study, and life was marked by Teacher Zhou. Cleaning up the pigsty, some trainees were afraid of dirty and hesitant, and I took the lead in jumping in; To the farm to harvest rice, in order to give full play to the role of machinery and equipment to speed up the progress, the trainees worked three shifts a day, and I worked three shifts for 24 hours; In dealing with the students who violated discipline, I also learned from Teacher Zhou's practice in those years, and came up with the same topic of "libertarian stink, stink, stink", and asked the students to make a review... More importantly, I also loved my career and students like Teacher Zhou, and soon won everyone's recognition, I was named "advanced cadre pacesetter" by the college, honored with third-class merit, and also participated in the "advanced unit, advanced individual" commendation meeting of the headquarters.
In June 2011, I was promoted to military officer and was awarded the rank of major general in July of the following year. Once, Teacher Zhou's daughter told me that I was wearing a photo of a major general with me, and Teacher Zhou had always been with me, often telling people who visited him: Shaohua is my student. Teachers are proud of their students, and students are not honored to have such teachers!
