What animals have never been successfully tamed?
Zebra. In theory, they can be tamed and ridden like horses. In fact, they are vile to hell.
Any prey species that can thrive around lions, leopards, crocodiles and hyenas must have serious attitudinal problems.

And, of course, put the damage on another zebra. Good luck, slap the saddle on one of these little animals and ride it.
Domesticating zebras and making them large enough to carry most people instead of wanting to kill them requires hundreds of years of selective breeding. Horses can already do this, and horses aren't much use anymore.
