Greenland's climate is cold, with glaciers and snow covering most of the region. Summers are short and mild, but winters are extremely low and can even fall below minus 40 degrees Celsius. Due to its special location, Greenland's sunshine hours are also very unique, with long days in summer and long nights in winter.

Greenland's political status is also very special. Although the island is one of the largest in the world, it is actually part of the Kingdom of Denmark and enjoys autonomy. The Danish Government is responsible for foreign and defence matters, but other matters are the responsibility of the Government of Greenland. The Government of Greenland consists of a Prime Minister and Parliament responsible for education, culture, health care and other social welfare issues.
