Each of the Dickens series, exclusively licensed by the Dickens Museum, is a new translation, and the museum has added illustrations for the first edition of the novel and a selection of illustrations for subsequent editions. In the preface, Louisa Price, director of the Dickens Museum, mentions that Dickens was a distinctly visual writer with a strong personal opinion on how his novels were presented, and that Dickens would give a strict description of each painting and would not hesitate to criticize their early drafts.
