Scientists have discovered a unique genomic structure in dogs in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

A team of geneticists from around the world collected and studied DNA samples from more than three hundred wild dogs living in the exclusion zone near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

According to TASS, the scientists concluded that their genome had acquired a unique structure that was not the same as the DNA of all other dogs

similar, and cites the findings of an article published in the journal Science Advances.

Further study of these animal genomes will help ecologists and biologists determine that ecosystems continue to be highly negative in radiation, the publication says

How life under the conditions of the load affects the evolution of animal populations and the process by which they adapt to live in this environment.

According to an international team of geneticists led by Timothy Musso, a professor at the University of South Carolina at Columbia (USA).

Fresh genetic material has been found to be entering the gene pool of the Chernobyl dog population over the past few decades, Professor Musso and colleagues strong

This characteristic of the Chernobyl must be taken into account in further studies.
