In the early morning of March 3, 2023, local time, an explosion occurred in a crude oil pipeline in the Rumukpe community of the Emerwa local government area in Rivers State, Nigeria, causing many casualties. According to local media reports, the accident may have been triggered by sabotage of pipelines to steal crude oil. A crude oil carrier caught fire while filling the pipeline with crude oil en route to a nearby illegal refinery, causing the pipeline to explode, killing and injuring many people around waiting to load the crude oil, and the vehicle was also burned.
