Recently, Asian elephant monitors in Mengxian Town, Pu'er Ning'er County, while tracking a wild Asian elephant herd, captured warm pictures of Asian elephants foraging and sleeping, among which two young Asian elephants of similar age were particularly cute before going to bed.
At around 1 p.m. that day, the eight-member herd of elephants crossed the tea mountain to a forest to feed, some of which fanned their ears to eat, while others ate and played. After a while, the elephant herd started its "nap time" on a relatively gentle slope. Footage from drones shows six Asian elephants gathered together, while the other two continue to forage for food and serve as guards.
Two baby elephants of similar age began their playful "play" before going to bed. The standing elephant first blocks the head of the other elephant with its body, and rubs the square head with its round belly. Then, he slept above the elephant, and moved his body from time to time to tickle the back of the other party, and the picture was particularly warm and loving. According to Asian elephant monitors, wild Asian elephants sleep both day and night, and relatively speaking, the sleep time during the day is shorter, less than half an hour.

In recent years, Ning'er County has continuously increased its efforts to protect the ecological environment, and the food sources of Asian elephants have been increasing, attracting wild Asian elephant populations to come and thrive. This elephant herd is the first visit since 2023, and the local forestry and grassland department has strengthened tracking and monitoring, timely release of early warning information, and ensure the safety of people and elephants.
