BOTTEGA VENETA 2023 WINTER COLLECTION

"A parade: the ever-changing and magical power of the streets, who will you meet? What's on the corner? Who will surprise you? The focus is on the surprises of chance encounters and encounters. ”--Matthieu Blazy

As the final chapter of the "Italy" trilogy, creative director Matthieu Blazy continues to use "craft in motion" as a creative concept to recount Italy's journey from the past, present and future. In this procession, the crafts, totems, symbols, flora and fauna of the past travel through space and time, in dialogue with the present and the future. A mixture of notes from living and non-living bodies turns into a harmonious and beautiful polyphony. As they travel, each person and object has its place: from the bronze statue of a Roman runner in the first century BC, to the 1913 Italian artist Umberto Boccioni's futuristic Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, and finally back to the Winter 2023 collection, inspired by ancient mystical imprints to futuristic flow forms, from Matthieu Blazy 's debut collection continues to the current "Boccioni" cocoon-shaped silhouette.

The journey of the characters continues, embarking on a path forward about transformation and change, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. This is a question about the definition of fashion and its origins. From the sheer white dress with pajama socks (the intricacies of the dress cut are revealed in the intricacies of the dressing cut, which are actually shoes woven from leather) to the delicate pinstriped and grey flannel pajamas, all made from Nappa leather. This is a new exploration of the definition of "dressing", starting from the silhouette of pajamas in the conventional sense, gradually evolving into the ultimate dream, and a new fantasy method is born. There are priests, playboys, sleepwalkers, street walkers, and even screen goddesses and banshees from ancient oceans in this parade. This show is full of joy and emotion, the self-joy brought by dressing up, and the courage to realize the way people dream of becoming through clothing. Here, craftsmanship is reinterpreted in innovative ways and classic silhouettes are redesigned to be reproduced. Botticelli's Primavera (1482) features a contemporary interpretation of the earth goddess and flowers, with intricate silk hand-embroidery redesigned and combined to resemble a new metamorphosis.

The presentation of collections and runways is like a delicate puzzle of possibilities. With innovative tailoring and craftsmanship. With a variety of silhouettes and techniques, it depicts wonderful creatures in a whimsical world. Fluffy jacquard and Intreccio weaving take it in a new way to become fish scales and feathers that adorn clothing and leather goods. Murano glass embraces the transparent handle on the Sardine bag, which takes on a rich and vibrant form. The show marks the end of a narrative for Bottega Veneta and the beginning of a new chapter.

"I love the idea of the Italian parade, a procession, a bizarre carnival, and a group of people from all over the world, for no reason, moving towards the same goal. I wanted to know what brought each other together, regardless of class, that everyone could be invited. ”--Matthieu Blazy
