In the face of difficult eczema, parents should be more patient

author:Tong Yee Tong Children's Medical Center

We often use "baby skin" to describe the delicate skin of babies, and because of this, babies' skin is often the first place to be infected. Rashes are the most common symptom of skin infections, while eczema is the most difficult to cure. Parents don't know why, the baby's little face and hands suddenly have eczema, the doctor said it was an allergy, but they couldn't find the allergen. And eczema is easy to repeat, parents often try countless kinds of ointments for the baby, but it still does not work.

Eczema is not only elusive in etiology, but also diverse, mainly the following three manifestations.

Eczema, also known as allergic dermatitis, is a chronic inflammation of the skin, so it often appears as recurrent attacks but is not contagious. Eczema often begins on the face and ears and appears as a red, rough, itchy rash. Eczema can spread throughout the body or be localized only: eczema in babies appears mainly on the face and scalp; Eczema in young children and preschool children is mainly concentrated in the bends of the elbows and knees; School-age and adolescent eczema often appears on the hands and feet.

First of all, eczema is closely related to allergies, the younger the baby, the greater the relationship with allergies, and the greater the relationship with food allergies. Secondly, eczema is also related to genetics, and children with a family history of allergies such as eczema, asthma or allergic rhinitis are prone to eczema. In addition, the environment is also an important factor, and the living environment, including indoor and outdoor environments, may induce eczema.

The key to eczema treatment is "moisturizing, anti-itching, anti-inflammatory". Mild occasional eczema does not require treatment, just moisturize the skin. Severe eczema requires medication, and hormonal drugs such as hydrocortisone can relieve itching and reduce inflammation.

No doubt! Skin moisturizing is a basic treatment for eczema, which is essential for repairing damaged skin, and moisturizing your baby's skin is a daily "homework" that parents must do.

●Apply unscented, low-sensitivity moisturizers, usually creams and ointments that moisturize better than lotions.

●After bathing, gently wipe your baby's skin and apply moisturizer to damp skin.

● Apply moisturizer at least twice a day, from face to body.

●Encouraging your baby to drink a moderate amount of water every day can also play a role in hydrating the skin.

Warm water bath can relieve dry skin, the water temperature is generally not higher than 40 ° C, each wash for about 10 minutes, too long will cause skin moisture loss. And don't let your baby sit in soapy water to bathe, don't take bubble baths, use unscented moisturizer soap or no soap (soap-based cleansers can dry out the skin). After bathing, gently pat the skin dry with a cotton towel, do not wipe too hard to avoid excessive friction. While the skin is not yet completely dry, apply a moisturizer and gently massage to achieve full hydration.
