The Republic of Barbados, abbreviated as Barbados, is located at 59.5 degrees west longitude, about 13 degrees north latitude, the easternmost point of the Lesser Antilles in the eastern Caribbean Sea, and is a coral limestone island.

It is surrounded by the ocean and is separated from Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada to the west.

It has an area of about 431 square kilometers and a tropical maritime climate.

Until the 16th century, it was inhabited by the Aravak and Carib Indians.

In 1518 the Spaniards landed on the island.

Portugal invaded more than 10 years later.

It was occupied by the English in 1624 and established as a governor in 1627.

Joined the Federation of the West Indies in 1958.

Internal self-government was achieved in October 1961.

It became independent on 30 November 1966 and is now a member of the Commonwealth.

The republic was established on November 30, 2021.

The flag is composed of three equal vertical rectangles from left to right: blue, yellow and blue.

The yellow rectangle has a black trident emblem in the center.

The blue vertical bars on either side represent the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, respectively.

The yellow vertical bar in the middle represents the beaches of Barbados.

The trident symbolizes Poseidon, the god of the sea in Greek mythology, and also symbolizes the people, the people and the people.
