Japan's Kyodo News Agency quoted a number of government-related sources as reporting that two members of the Ground Self-Defense Force stationed in Djibouti were detained and confiscated mobile phones by the Djibouti military around October 2021 for suspected photographs of the People's Liberation Army, and the local Japanese embassy protested to the Djibouti Ministry of Defense, and the two were released more than 10 hours later and their mobile phones were returned
