Interesting statistics for the English League Cup, can you play three times in the final?

Hello friends, I am Pictorial Number, a small UP master who likes to make maps.

The final of the 63rd League Cup (called the Carabao Cup after its sponsor) kicks off tonight, with Newcastle United in the North East and Manchester United in the North West battling for the trophy at London's Wembley Stadium.

UP hosts will be streaming the match, welcome to my live room, so before the game, I would like to share some interesting statistics about the Premier League Cup.

Unlike the FA Cup, which hosts the FA (which includes hundreds of teams participating in the qualifying round), the FA Cup, hosted by the English Football League (EFL), has stabilized in recent years at 92 participating teams, including 20 in the Premier League and 24 each in the Championship, League A and League Two.

But in the initial season of the League Cup – 1960-61 – only 87 teams competed as Arsenal, Tottenham, Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom and Wolves did not play, and the eventual winner was Aston Villa from Birmingham.

In the 1962–63 season, only 80 teams competed, the fewest in the history of the League Cup, and the winner was Birmingham City.

The largest number of participating teams was in the 1991-92 season (93 teams in total), the last season before the establishment of the Premier League, when the participants were 22 old League A teams, 24 old League B teams, 24 League C teams and 23 English Ding teams, and the final champion was Manchester United, which was also the first time the Red Devils won the League Cup, and the "Class of 92" began to appear on the stage of history.

The team that has played in the most Carabao Cup finals is Liverpool, with 13 times, they have won 9 of them, and are therefore also the team with the most League Cup titles.

Of the teams that have played in two or more Premier League Cup finals, the highest winning percentage is Manchester City, who have reached the final nine times and won eight of them, with the only loss coming in the 1973-74 season, when they lost 2-1 to Wolves.

The teams with the most consecutive titles are also Liverpool and Manchester City, who completed four consecutive titles from 1980-81 to 1983-84 and 2017-18 to 2020-21 respectively.

In contrast, Arsenal have lost the most Premier League Cup finals, having reached eight finals but only won two of them, in 1986-87 against Liverpool and 1992-93 over Sheffield Wednesday, both before they moved away from Highbury.

Ten years ago in the 2012-13 season, Swansea became the only Welsh team in history to have won the Premier League Cup. In addition, Cardiff City, from the capital of Wales, was runners-up in the 2011-12 League Cup.

Regarding the two sides against tonight, United are reaching the final for the 10th time, having won five times and lost four times; Newcastle, on the other hand, have reached the final for the second time and have never lifted a League Cup trophy.

The final in the early days of the League Cup (the first six seasons) was played over two legs, on each team's home turf; It was then changed to a single-game tiebreaker at neutral venues (mainly Wembley Stadium), with rematches played in the event of a draw.

The 1976–77 League Cup lasted three finals, with Aston Villa and Everton ending with 0 goals at Wembley before going 1-1 at Sheffield's Hillsborough Stadium, culminating in Aston Villa's second replay at Old Trford, winning 3–2 in extra time.

From the 1997-98 season, the League Cup eliminated the final replay system, and if the extra time was drawn, the winner was divided by a penalty shootout, such as the previous edition, Liverpool beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties.

On the player side, Sir Geoff Hurst (the first person to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final) and Welsh legend Ian Rush are tied for the League Cup record holders, both scoring 49 goals.

As for this edition of the League Cup, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Southampton's Che Adams are currently tied for top scorers, both of whom have scored five goals, so can "Ranaldo" go one step further in the final and become the only top scorer in the League Cup this season?
