Vietnam's Ministry of Transport said that in order to meet the needs of socio-economic development and international integration, Vietnam will build 16 new railway lines by 2030, with a total mileage of about 4,802 kilometers.

Specifically, the 2021-2030 Railway Network Plan and Vision 2050, approved by the Prime Minister of the Government of Viet Nam in Decision No. 1769/QD-TTg, clearly states that upgrades will be carried out to effectively utilize the existing seven railway lines (total length of 2,440 km).

In addition, the Government will invest in the expansion of the railway network. Among them, 16 new railway lines will be built by 2030, with a total mileage of about 4,802 kilometers; By 2050, 25 new railway lines will be built, with a total mileage of about 6,354 kilometers.

In the area of urban railways, the government has instructed relevant ministries and departments to coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to accelerate the implementation of investment and construction projects in accordance with the approved plans to meet the public transport needs of these cities. Other places are also studying the construction of urban rail transportation networks in provincial plans.

In the case of dedicated railways, stations with dedicated rail connections will continue to be maintained, retrofitted and expanded to meet the needs of transportation in line with the 2021-2030 Rail Network Plan and Vision 2050.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the railway network will become a connection to all regions of the country, strategic economic corridors, urban centers, international seaports, international border ports, airports and major transportation hubs.
