20 catties of relief grain

In 1950, my father fell ill, ate a normal diet, but could not work, so I had to finish the first elementary school with half ploughing and half reading. According to the situation of my family, I have no intention of going up to height, but I can't get my mother. On the eighth day of the fifth month of the old calendar in 1951, I only got nan tuan Ting elementary school to take the transfer exam. It was spring, and I was 4 months later than my classmates. After the entrance examination, his academic performance was not bad, and the year-end examination ranked seventeenth among more than 70 people in the class.

Looking back on the two years of study and life in high school, it is really unforgettable. Living in the earthen kang, in the summer to lift the kang mat to see, countless flea heads drilled in the soil, butts up, biting at night makes it difficult to sleep. I asked a classmate in the village to bring a 30-centimeter-wide wooden plank, one end on the edge of the kang, and a few bricks at the other, so as to avoid the bite of fleas. Most of the three meals a day are millet porridge. I don't know why I don't pay for food and pay millet, more than twenty pounds a month, and some have already given birth to bugs. During the meal, the chief of the food [the student] whistled, and everyone drank porridge together, and the sound was so loud. At that time, I didn't eat more than 30 pounds a month, including firewood and pickles [in exchange for rice], and at least I ate 21 pounds of millet a month.

After two classes in the morning, I began to be hungry, and by lunch, I was really pressed against my back, and my eyes were blue with hunger. Once I had only a dime in my hand, I was so hungry that I gritted my teeth and bought 3 small fires at a small snack shop outside the school between classes, and I regretted it afterwards. When I came home, I said that I had opened my mouth, and my mother was so distressed that she brought me the remaining pound of peanut seeds. What is particularly sad is that on that occasion I also took away the only 20 kilograms of relief grain [millet] from my family. When I returned to school, I carried these 20 pounds of millet on my back, and the more I thought about it, the more sad I was, the tears did not know how much, and when there was no one, I cried loudly for a while. This is the true portrayal of the period of economic recovery in the three years after liberation, and it is really a big river without water and a small river!

Debt to study

At home, I was unable to provide me with reading, but I actually finished reading the middle school teacher and became a people's teacher, and the bittersweet and bittersweet in this cannot be said enough. In the final analysis, it is a "money" word, when I was in junior high school, I paid 7 yuan a month for food, the first time I was barely able to deal with the past, and when I went home to take it again, I would have to borrow it myself. At that time, people were in difficulty, some people said "do not bend for five buckets of rice", although I did not bend for 7 yuan, but also to say good things, lose smiles. Once, I ran to several companies and didn't get a loan, so I had to take out a loan, but the credit union said that there was no loan for school. At that time, my second brother-in-law was working as an accountant there, and I was impulsive and threw a tantrum - it was really poor in the downtown area and no one asked! At that time, I felt that the world was cold. To this end, my father also learned the trick, and gave me a loan of 300 yuan to complete junior high school within the scope allowed by the credit union, but it was not until the 1960s that my father sold 3 piglets to pay it off.

Special school emblem

After graduating from high school in 1953, I walked into the examination room of the junior high school with my classmates without my family, and after two sessions, I felt good about myself, and slept on the bare board bed in the county dormitory that night. The next day, I was in the crowd for half a day and didn't see my name, and I was anxious. But looking forward, the second place was me [Ji Tianying first], and I couldn't believe my eyes at the time.

My family knows that I have been admitted to junior high school, although I am very happy, but I am also secretly worried, where can I afford it! In fact, I didn't want to go to school, because I didn't know the situation at home, I just took the exam to see my grades. In the end, my mother made a decision: "Even if you smash the pot and sell iron, you must also provide for my son to go to junior high school!" ”

Qianxi County Middle School was founded in 1952, began to recruit 2 classes, and then expanded 3 classes, plus our [second session] 2 classes, a total of 7 classes. Since the school was founded not long ago, there were new ones everywhere, and when I entered the school gate, I was greeted by two moon doors, and there were new classrooms inside. The tables and chairs are all new, and the sports facilities are complete, the physical and chemical instruments have never been seen, and the biological specimens are more novel. I had just come out of the small ravine and seen so many novel things, and it was like Grandma Liu entering the Grand View Garden.

7 yuan a month for food, I think it is too good to eat. Rice porridge in the morning and evening, dried rice in the middle of the day, a few stir-fried vegetables on a table, and sometimes steamed buns. Like the current big bread, some students can eat four or five at a meal. The most ridiculous is the male classmate, a cotton coat in winter, no coat, because of the frequent eating of rice porridge, a long time, the front chest is full of porridge Gabaer, go to the street are hanging on the cover, do not ask to know that it is a county middle school student, people laughed that it is a "special school emblem".

"Big Luan"

After graduating from junior high school in 1956, the school escorted 30 of our classmates to Hebei Luanshi, and after entering the school, I was assigned to class 26, the student number was 2183.

Luanshi was a well-known secondary normal school in Hebei Province, which was known as the "DaLuan Pai" at that time. As soon as you enter the school gate, the neat cypress walls are lined up on both sides of Yong Road, facing the office building. Bypassing it and going inside, the houses in the courtyard are scattered, and the small buildings, brick houses, and stone houses are arranged in a simple and harmonious manner. Among them is a small two-story building, which is the office and residence of the party secretary of the school. All the open spaces in the courtyard are planted with flowers and trees, and the smell of flowers is intoxicating.

Luanshi has a long history, and when cleaning up the warehouse, we found official documents issued by the Qing government to Luanshi. In the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, Luanshi sent a large number of middle- and high-level cadres and benevolent people to the country, and after liberation, it trained a large number of teachers and economic construction talents for the country.

In 3 years of campus life, I experienced the "anti-rightist" struggle. The teachers and the students in the transfer class engaged in "anti-rightism," and we engaged in the "great socialist debate." Watching the "rightist" teacher in the material suit being ordered to clean the toilet, a classmate jumped into the well, and his heart was pounding.

During the Great Leap Forward in 1958, I participated in various work-study programs. As a backbone, I was sent to steelmaking, but after a month to no avail. After digging the wheat field, digging a trench half a person deep in the wheat field, and then burying it in a layer of soil and grass, and planting wheat on it, it is said that it is densely planted to seize high yields and release satellites. Go to the ballast farm with an iron fork to pick the ballast, at noon the room to each person to bring 3 small flower rolls, a day even hungry with tired, waist can not stand up straight, dinner can eat 7 bowls of porridge, that bowl is larger than the current bowl set. He also washed coal, worked in a peanut processing plant, and dug a canal at the Kashiwag Farm. In short, in the past three years, I have experienced a lot and gained a lot, and there are many things that I feel worth recalling and reflecting on so far.

Bai Gezhuang repaired the canal

At the beginning of April 1958, in the clarion call of the "Great Leap Forward", hundreds of students of our Luan Division marched into the second and fifth divisions of Bai Gezhuang. We were on class 26 and were assigned to five points. At that time, the five-point field was not actually built, and at a glance, it was just a salt and alkali beach with no edge. The so-called building was nothing more than a few simple sheds, which were our campsites at the time. Every morning and evening is mainly porridge, and at noon, most of them are white potato noodles and climbing beans steamed.

We stayed in a makeshift shack. More than ten meters long, four or five meters wide, the roof of the shed is covered with straw, a ditch is dug in the middle of the shed, and the soil is turned over on both sides to form two earthen mounds, which are covered with straw, and lying head to head on both sides, which is our residence. Every morning my hair was wet and my luggage was even wetter, but I didn't dare to dry it during the day, for fear of being blown away by the sea breeze.

When working, it is a militarized organization, with several teaching classes being 1 company, one teaching class being 1 platoon, and 3 squads under the row, and competing in sections according to platoons and squads. Boys dig energy canals, and girls dig wool canals. When each section begins to hair, the person carrying the basket holds a large barrel shovel that is more than a foot long, and the basket is as fast as a chicken eating rice, and the two people who are more than 200 pounds carry it and trot all the way. After digging more than a meter deep, it was difficult to lift up, so I picked up all the drums and cut the wet black clay like a cake and threw them to the sides, each hammer weighing more than a dozen pounds. At the end of the day, the body was like a scattered rack, and the next day both hands could not be extended, like holding a shovel, and only by working for a while could it slowly unfold. After a month, eating, living, and drying is really very bitter, but none of these hot-blooded young people are bitter, none of them are tired. A classmate from Yutian nationality was tired of a heart attack, but he couldn't lie down in the shack, and even if he couldn't do the work, he had to go to the construction site to go around and see.

When we came back, it was May Day, and the Jiefang brand truck took us to the Tangshan Railway Station. While waiting for the bus, we saw that the little girls on the street had already put on their skirts, but we were still dressed in cotton clothes, carrying a large luggage roll, and walking in the crowd was particularly conspicuous. However, this month's experience has created inexhaustible spiritual wealth for our future work and life.
