The baker incident made it clear that Taiwan's so-called democratic crisis was clear

A baker in Kaohsiung saw Chen Shui-bian walking like a fly in the park, recorded it and put it on the Internet, which led to an inspection by the Internal Revenue Service and the Health Bureau, and received a lot of harassment and even intimidation. The baker said, "Someone in the Green Camp wants to reward him with two bullets and ask him to be careful," and what is even more outrageous is that Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Ju went so far as to say that people with a heart should stop the undue nuisance of former President Chen Shui-bian, and if there is any transgression of the law, the municipal government will also stop it according to law. Chen Ju was convicted without trial, convicting the baker as a person with a heart, and defining his behavior as improper nuisance, and finally intimidating the baker and others who might follow suit by stopping it according to law.

Chen Ju's mentality and speech completely deviated from the value of democracy, just as the baker protested bitterly, "If you do this under the DPP's rule, don't say anything about democratic politics and transitional justice, where is your transitional justice?" Is there no freedom of speech? In fact, the baker is only one of the many examples of undermining democracy after the DPP came to power in its entirety, and other examples, such as the improper party property regulations that violate the democratic constitution, su Jiaquan, the "president of the Legislative Yuan" a few days ago, even wanted to condemn the working youth who rushed into the "Legislative Yuan" to protest the "one case and one rest.".

In fact, we are not surprised that the DPP violates the spirit of democracy, because the value of democracy is only an ornament in the DPP's mind, used to deceive voters and overseas media. Not being surprised does not mean that we are not worried. From this incident, we can find that not only does the DPP regard the value of democracy as an ornament, but it seems that our media and the people do not take it seriously.

The baker is only a small person, how small and powerless in the face of power, and democracy, if it is valuable, is to save any individual, no matter how small, from the persecution of power, or the freedom from fear. From this point of view, the baker incident is a major event in the consolidation of taiwan's democracy. However, we found that there are only a few media criticisms of this matter, and the pro-green media is more selective reporting, so it can be said that the whole society is almost blind. Assuming that this incident occurred during the Period of the Ma Authorities, I don't know how many overwhelming criticisms it will attract, and how could the political discussion program have missed such an opportunity. However, that all changed.

Freedom has no color, and if freedom belongs to only one color, it is not freedom, but privilege. Democratization scholars cite the number of party rotations as one of the indicators of democratic consolidation, but this indicator is unreliable in terms of the process of Democratization in Taiwan. Even though Taiwan has experienced three political party rotations, the value of democracy is still not deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Suppose a significant majority of the people in a society put color before freedom, then there is no real freedom in that society, and democracy is nothing more than an illusion of election.

From the perspective of cross-strait relations, democracy is Taiwan's greatest advantage, and if this advantage is only a superficial advantage, then Taiwan will have nothing to cling to in the future, whether on the moral level or even in development. The crisis of Taiwan's democracy is actually a crisis of Taiwan's survival and development, and how can the Taiwan people be so indifferent.

The freedom of the baker is the symbol of Taiwan's freedom, who makes the baker afraid, who is the killer of Taiwan's democracy, and the silent will be an accomplice.
