In 1978, director Chang Yan wanted to make a film about underground work, and colleagues recommended Lü Zheng's novel "Fighting in the Heart of the Enemy" to him. After the filming was completed, Tokihiko renamed the film "Gunshots of the Secret Bureau".

At the beginning of the filming of "The Gunshot of the Secret Bureau", it was not taken seriously by the long film studio, and Chang yan's application for imported color film was not allowed, and Chang Yan decided to make black and white films. At that time, the process of developing and printing black and white film of Changying Film Factory had been discontinued for many years.

In 1979, it was already the domestic screen of the color film world, a black and white movie was released, the deep alley, the cold voiceover, the unique thrill of black and white, at once brought people into that thrilling era, brought the audience into the plot.

"The Gunshot of the Secret Bureau" welcomed 600 million viewers, when China's total population was only 900 million, an average of 3 cents a movie ticket, bringing 180 million yuan to the box office for long films. The film was an unprecedented success.

The two main actors of the film, Chen Shaoze, who played Liu Xiaochen, and Xiang Mei, who played Shi Xiuying, became the brightest stars in the early 1980s.

Chen Shaoze later took over a series of movies such as "Big Wild Geese Flying North", "Special Zone Girl", "Dangerous Deal" and so on, all of which were well-known male number one, and all of these films took Chen Shaoze as a selling point.

In 1986, Chen Shaoze became the head of the Shanghai Youth Repertory Theatre. The "personal secretary major aide-de-camp" became the leader. Chen Shaoze, who came from a drama actor, faced two choices, one was to become a nominal leader for his film career, and the other was to sacrifice his career and lead the youth drama troupe out of the trough.

In the mid-1980s, the drama market was depressed. At the peak of his film career, Chen Shaoze pushed off all the film contracts, took the actors to rehearse new plays, engaged in small theaters, and made pioneering experimental dramas, and the dramas discharged gradually won the market, "At that time, it could sell more than 1,000 yuan a ticket price, which was very tight." I also took the group to Singapore to perform, and it was also very popular." Chen Shaoze said.

During Chen Shaoze's tenure as the head of the regiment, the troupe divided the actors into rooms several times, and Chen Shaoze should be at ease with his contributions on fame and reputation, but he repeatedly crossed his name from the list of sub-rooms.

Chen Shaoze's family lived in a farmhouse on the outskirts of Shanghai for three years. In front is a vegetable patch, behind it is a pigsty, there is no toilet, no running water, go to the river to wash clothes. It was the end of the 1980s, and no one could imagine that this was the home of the only national-level professional drama troupe in Shanghai and the head of the best drama troupe in China.

Chen Shaoze has a virtuous wife and is also a drama actor, and to this day she does not blame Chen Shaoze for not making profits for the family, if Chen Shaoze had left a suite for himself, today's market value would be tens of millions.

Chen Shaoze retired in 1995, and after his retirement, Chen Shaoze has been enthusiastic about public welfare undertakings.

In the 1998 flood, Chen Shaoze took his daughter to the front line of the Jiujiang Flood Fight, and her daughter sang songs to the officers and soldiers fighting the flood, and Chen Shaoze recited poems to the soldiers.

With the role of Liu Xiaochen, Chen Shaoze has this powerful influence in the hearts of old audiences. In 2017, Chen Shaoze participated in more than 250 public welfare performances, which were free appearances without a penny, and sometimes had to post travel expenses backwards.

"Home and country are inseparable, and if the homeland is harmonious, our lives will be very good." Chen Shaoze said so.
