"Shiosu" is a novella by Japanese writer Yukio Mishima, not long, a total of more than 60,000 words, but the novel is beautifully written, allowing me to regain the joy of reading that I have not experienced for a long time.

The story is very simple: on an island far from the mainland, "Song Island", a young Shinji, a fisherman boy who has just graduated, meets the youngest daughter of the richest family on the island, the beautiful Hatsue. The two fell in love at first sight, but the huge difference in family circumstances made them afraid to date publicly and could only meet secretly. However, the uneasy and kind love enemy spread rumors everywhere, and Hatsue's father also tried his best to stop it, and the relationship between the two was in crisis. Shinji and Hatsue did not give up, and in the end, Shinji successfully passed the test set by Hatsue's father and successfully joined Hatsue.

In general, this is a big reunion story of a poor boy breaking through the obstacles and embracing the beautiful return, and generally such a bland and even cheesy story is difficult to arouse my interest, but I was deeply attracted to it after just reading two chapters, and I read almost word for word.

When reading, I laughed the whole time, because the characters described in the novel were kind, the scenery was elegant, the words were beautiful, and I was unconsciously happy.

In fact, Yukio Mishima is a relatively gloomy writer in Japan, and his works such as "Confessions of the Mask" and "Kinkakuji Temple" are full of elements such as sex, violence, murder, and crime, but this novel is very different in his writings, sweet, pure, sunny, and optimistic.

Well worth a read.

"Tidal Riot" means the sound of the waves, and the story takes place on the "Song Island" far from the land. Mishima's "Song Island" is not a classic Japanese "battle royale" cage, but more like Tao Yuanming's "Peach Blossom Garden".

Almost all the people in the text are kind, and there is a sentence that points out the source of the kindness of the people on the island: "Loneliness has made him completely abandon the belief in the evil of human nature." ”

The male protagonist, Shinji, is a bodybuilding, brave, taciturn teenager, when he first met Hatsue, he realized the huge gap between the two families, and did not have to think differently, and only decided to be with her after Hatsue showed his heart. Once he decided, Xinzhi was very determined, even if there were gossip that affected his family, he did not give up, silently guarded his love, and finally broke through the test and made his dream come true.

The heroine Hatsue, the author almost gave her all the praise. Generous, beautiful, gentle, strong, the text has a special paragraph describing Hatsue's beautiful breasts: "Under the sweater seems to hide a solid support, and the slightly raised part is subtly shaken under the beating", which is very beautiful, without any sense of obscenity. In addition to being beautiful, Hatsue's fishing skills are particularly strong, surpassing the previous generation of Shinji's mother. Beautiful, kind-hearted, and skilled, the author pours a lot of pen power into such a girl.

Shinji's mother, as the best of the previous generation of sea girls, although the family is poor, has been working hard to support the family life. Kind, she did not have any ill intentions because of the wealth of the Hatsue family, and at first she even wanted Shinji to give up, showing considerable independence. Later, for the happiness of her son, she plucked up the courage to go to Hatsue's house to propose to her relatives, and she ate the closed door soup, and did not blame Hatsue and her father, but just suffered in silence. If Hatsue is the embodiment of "beauty" in the author's heart, then Shinji's mother is the representative of "motherhood".

Hatsue's father, Mr. Miyata, was a stubborn old man with a rough appearance and no anger, and many people were afraid of him. Traditionally, he heard the rumors of Shinji and Hatsue and insisted on not letting the two meet, thinking that he would be the great demon of the whole story, but he was very tolerant to give Shinji a chance to make their dreams come true.

Chiyoko is the source of the twists and turns in the novel, but she is a kind girl. As the second female number, she also likes Shinji, and when she happens to see Shinji and Hatsue dating, the girl's jealousy makes her tell Shinji's competitor Anfu about the two, and later the news spread out, causing great trouble to Shinji Hatsue. Chiyoko soon regrets it, and although she is unhappy with Shinji's liking for Hatsue, she tries her best to make up for it.

Anfu, the only bad guy in the novel, comes from a wealthy background, can speak eloquently, is the head of the YMCA, but is frivolous. He thought that with his family situation, he was the best candidate for Hatsue's husband, but Xinzhi made him angry, so he added oil and vinegar to spread rumors, and even wanted to rape Hatsue. Anfu's "bad" comes from his knowledge, when he was in Tokyo, he was a prostitute, and he also preached it. In Mishima's description, Kakushima makes people kind, Tokyo makes people bad, and has obvious likes and dislikes for different environments.

Other characters, such as the lighthouse chief, the lighthouse chief's wife, the seller, etc., all adhere to the background of kindness.

With "good human nature" as the basis, the novel presents a sweet love story, without worrying about a huge reversal. And the novel is very pure without "sexual" depictions, although there is nudity, but it is a manifestation of the health and magnificence of life, without any sense of indecency.

In addition to the sweet plot, what is more admirable about "Tide Riot" is the beautiful writing.

Yes, the thin storyline does not hinder the greatness of this novel, and the root cause is that the author's writing is very good.

The passages that simply promote the development of the storyline account for only half of the whole text, and the large paragraphs describe the beautiful scenery, staggered architecture and hard work of Song Island.

This is not so much a romance novel as it is a beautiful essay about Kakushima, with two random excerpts:

"The pine trees are still shallow green, but the sea near the shore is stained with the dark red of spring seaweed, and the monsoon wind in the northwest is constantly blowing from the mouth of the sea in Tsu City, adding a bit of cold to those who come here to enjoy the scenery."

"Rising to the top and looking back at the Ise Sea, the night sky is full of stars, clouds, and a low cloud on the Chita Peninsula is slanted, and silent lightning flies from time to time."

These sentences bring to life the beautiful and bright portrayal of Kakushima.

In order to write this novel, Yukio Mishima made two careful expeditions to the island, so in addition to the scenery, the description of the architecture of Kakushima is also very detailed.

For example, the symbol of Song Island, the lighthouse:

"Across the waterway, the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula looms in front of you, and on this rocky, desolate shore, stands a small unmanaged lighthouse on the headland of Lake Ira. Part of the Pacific Ocean can be seen from the Sakajima Lighthouse, and mt. Fuji can sometimes be seen in the morning when the mountains of Atsumi Bay are in the northeast, and in the morning when the strong westerly wind blows. “

There are also descriptions of daughter Slope, The Dock, and the Prince's Grave, and reading these words as if they were placed in Kakushima to experience the beautiful love between Shinji and Hatsue.

The author depicts the labor of the fishermen on Song Island in a large way, such as the process of sailing at sea, the details of fishing operations, and the operation of resisting storms, etc., and describes the industriousness, bravery and optimism of the working people very vividly.

In the chapter about the sea women going to the sea to catch shells, there is a passage describing the naked sea women comparing their breasts to each other.

Everyone laughed and laughed as they stood up and proudly showed their breasts to each other.

Some of them held it with both hands, 'No, no, no, put your hands down, it's easy to get through with your hands.' ’

This breast will not be confused when you hold it in your hand, see what you say. ’

The women laughed and competed with each other for the shape of their breasts.

In addition to the scene, the plot is basically not promoted by psychological description, but through environmental description to reflect the psychology of the characters.

What impressed me the most was this passage:

"With a soft shout, the light of the flashlight flew like a bird to the treetops, and the young man turned around astutely, and then picked up the fallen girl."

The author does not describe the girl's fall positively, but through the flashlight spot due to the person's fall to the tree, to show the girl falling, the girl is angry with the matter of writing with a little joy and naughtiness.

It is also said that when Shinji's mother proposed to Hatsue's father, Mishima did not describe the change in her mother's psychology, but borrowed a butterfly flying on the surface of the sea to describe the process of her mother's courage through the butterfly's efforts.

"The butterfly flew high in the air and left the island in the face of the wind. Although the wind is calm, it still blows strongly on the gentle wings of the butterfly. Despite this, the butterfly rose high and left the island. Mother stared at the dazzling sky until the butterfly turned into a black spot. “

As I got older, I felt more and more anxious and utilitarian. Take reading, in the past few years, not only have I read a lot of books on growth, psychology, and the workplace, but even if I read other types, I always want to learn something from it.

It's as if not getting anywhere is a waste of time.

And "Chao Chao" is not a book for you to learn anything. If there is any main idea, it is probably a praise for the vitality, and people have to summon up the courage to live and so on. In the novel, it is written: "A man must have courage, and with courage it is easy to do." We Kakushima men must be like this, the door and the property are secondary. ”

But this theme is not worth mentioning for the whole novel.

Because the beautiful scenery, the magnificent ocean, the kind people, and the sweet love are not reflected in the main theme of the article.

Although I didn't learn anything, reading this book gave me a very good experience.

It seems to be lying on the lawn in the courtyard when you were young, checking the novelty and eagerness of pinyin to read the Three Kingdoms; it is also like the tension and happiness of secretly reading Jin Yong's martial arts novels in high school class.

It gives me a feeling of calming down and experiencing life.

Sometimes reading is not for any purpose, reading itself is the end.
