The reporter learned from the Ministry of Education on the 16th that the Ministry of Education recently issued the "Regulations on the Management of the Use of the National Standard Language of Information Technology Products", requiring that the use of the national standard language for information technology products should comply with the language standards promulgated by the state.
The provisions point out that the use of the standard spoken and written Chinese language for numbers and online publications shall comply with standard standards for Chinese pinyin, Putonghua phonetics, standardized Chinese characters, modern Chinese word forms, punctuation marks, and number usage. Where it is necessary to use Chinese dialects, traditional characters, or variant characters, the relevant provisions of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Standard Spoken and Written Language of the People's Republic of China shall be complied with.
According to the regulations, the language and writing department under the State Council, in conjunction with the relevant competent departments, is responsible for supervising and inspecting digital and online publications of modern Chinese language reference books. Local language and writing departments at all levels are responsible for supervising and inspecting digital and online publications other than textbooks and modern Chinese language reference books within their administrative areas.
The regulations will come into force on March 1, 2023.
