"You made a lot of money this year", a large part of the reason why this question troubles young people returning to their hometowns for the Chinese New Year is that "you have not made money after a hard year".

However, this embarrassment has been somewhat eased in 2023. From the recent hot search #Why do Chinese love to save money more #After 90, they also began to save in retaliation# It seems that many young people have made money in 2022.

On January 10, 2023, the 2022 financial statistics report was released on People's Bank of China official website. Among them, the RMB deposit balance in 2022 increased by 26.26 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.59 trillion yuan year-on-year. Among them, household deposits increased by 17.84 trillion yuan, significantly higher than the new level of 9.9 trillion yuan in 2021, setting a new historical record.

At the same time, a 2022 report by the Houlang Research Institute shows that among the 2,200 people under the age of 40 in the country, the post-90s generation has the largest proportion of monthly savings habits, accounting for 41.7%; The post-95s followed, also reaching 40.6%.

As the topic of "saving money" appeared on the hot search, netizens left messages such as "If you don't save money, you will support me", "If you don't save money, you buy me a house", "If you have money, you have a sense of security, that's how realistic" and so on. It is not difficult to see that young people's consumption views are becoming more and more rational.

On some social platforms, topics such as "super practical money-saving skills" and "saving strategies" are deeply liked and sought after by young people, and the likes and collections are significantly higher than other topics.

In this issue of the bistro, Ran Jiyuan chatted with several young people about how he saved money in 2022 and whether he saved it. Some of them returned to the workplace after two years of entrepreneurship and did not save a penny; Some people resign naked for half a year and eat the old book; There are also people in first-tier cities, the necessary expenditure is large, and they can barely break even.

Of course, there are also many young people who have saved money. Some of them have a plan for income, but they have saved a lot of money with ordinary income; Some people eat and live at home, and can save half of their salary every month; Someone changed to a new job with good benefits and completed the savings plan ahead of schedule; Some people enter the vent industry and save more when they earn more.

A few joys and a few sorrows. People who make money are naturally happy, but as Cheng Cheng of Shenzhen said, without making money, although there is less "spend if you want" dashing, but the feeling of a family working hard to save money for the future together on a down-to-earth basis also makes her feel extremely solid and comfortable.

People in Shenzhen "can't save" money

Cheng Cheng| 28 years old, a practitioner in the foreign trade industry

From morning to night, 24 hours online, "working hard to make money" has become the label of Shenzhen migrant workers. However, in Shenzhen, the money saving flag I set up before 2022 "collapsed in the middle".

At the beginning of 2022, TikTok gradually gained wind, as a migrant worker in charge of foreign trade business, in addition to the stable income of my main business, my independent station side business was also operated. Therefore, I was full of ambition and set a small goal of saving 150,000 yuan by the end of the year.

And Shen Drift knows that "Shenzhen saves money and Shenzhen spends, and I want to take it home", I know that if I want to save money, I must not only open source, but also save money.

In addition to the rental expenses that cannot be reduced in Shenzhen, my husband and I have tried our best to practice the consumption downgrade of "eating, wearing and flowers". After getting married at the beginning of 2022, the number of times we went to the restaurant was greatly reduced, and we tried to bring meals to the company for three meals, and the dinner must be solved at home, compared to the previous takeaway, we can save about 700-800 yuan per month.

In addition, instead of buying a TV, I bought a cheaper projector, and I stopped buying capsule coffee and replaced it with freeze-dried coffee, which reduced the cost by more than half. At the same time, I was addicted to digging for various "replacements" while keeping accounts happily. Although there is less "spend if you want", this feeling of working hard to save money for the future makes me feel extremely grounded and comfortable.

However, just halfway through 2022, surprises followed.

First of all, the company laid off employees due to "efficiency problems", and I was also on the list, I wanted to develop a side business after receiving "N+1", but I didn't admit that I had negotiated with a factory owner who originally did traditional foreign trade to do overseas platform agency operation, because of the epidemic, the other party was never able to go to Shenzhen for an interview, and the cooperation ran aground, which also made me a little disappointed.

The biggest accident was that I got pregnant unexpectedly in August 2022, and after the pregnancy, the whole person became "extremely fragile", my eyes were tearful when I looked at the computer, and the energy invested in the side hustle became more and more limited. At the same time, to replenish the body during pregnancy, buy calcium tablets, various iron, nourishing fish maw bird's nest, and various regular physical examinations, in short, a lot of expenses.

Therefore, by the end of 2022, look at the ledger, or empty-handed, and think about the production of a "four-legged gold-swallowing beast", probably 2023 will not have to expect to save money.

Two years of entrepreneurship, back to the beginning

Ah Wei | 33 years old Company HR

If I were to describe my 2022 in one sentence, it would be "everything to zero, start all over again".

At the end of November 2022, I ended my two-year entrepreneurial career and returned to the workplace. It's not just my professional identity that comes back, it's my card number.

Before starting my business, I was an HR in a business with a stable job but a low salary. Because my lover and I were also about to have children, in order to provide them with a better life, I decided to quit my job and start a business in the second half of 2020, and after thinking about it again, I decided to open a duck store. On the one hand, there are more young people who like to eat duck goods, on the other hand, you can open a store in a few square meters of shops, and there is no technical content, and the cost of starting a business is low, which is very suitable for entrepreneurs like me who do not have much savings.

I spent 3,000 yuan to learn the full set of technical recipes for spicy duck from the physical store, because the store is opened in Beijing, the rent in a good area is too expensive, and with little start-up capital, I can only rent a 10-square-meter façade in a relatively remote place, counting the rent and the freezer and other equipment, a total investment of about 100,000 yuan. I thought that making about 200,000 yuan a year should be no problem, which is better than going to work.

But after two months of opening the store, I felt that it was difficult to make money. I'm busy every day, but I'm still losing money. In order to generate revenue, I added categories such as braised pork rice, ice powder and beverages to meet the dual needs of consumers for snacks and staple foods at one time, and I got up earlier every day, in addition to making duck goods and making braised pork rice, but I have not been profitable.

Until 2021, the taste of duck goods and braised pork rice finally gained consumer recognition, we accumulated a group of repeat customers, online and offline orders finally increased, and at the end of the year, I not only recovered the cost, but also earned 100,000 yuan. I finally saw the light, and my lover and I thought about continuing to make the store bigger and become a chain store in the future.

Looking back now, fortunately we didn't expand our stores in 2022, otherwise it wouldn't be as simple as zeroing everything in. In 2022, the epidemic has been repeated, shops have been "closed" from time to time, everyone is busy grabbing vegetables and hoarding daily necessities, it seems that young people who love duck goods overnight have also disappeared, and this year is too difficult.

In October 2022, my lover became pregnant, a new life was about to be born, and we felt not only joy, but also pressure. Considering the current business situation of the duck store, I discussed with my lover and decided to close the store, and I returned to the workplace, although the salary will not be too high, but it is stable.

After more than a month of submitting resumes and interviews, at the end of November 2022, I finally entered a chip company and continued to do personnel management, and my salary was one-third higher than my previous company.

In December 2022, the news of full liberalization came, and my lover asked me if I regretted not holding on any longer? Looking at the same number on my bank card as when I quit in 2020, I shook my head and said I didn't regret it.

Naked for half a year, pure eating old books

Head Head | 27 years old Unemployed

The Spring Festival in 2023 is coming again, and I dare not calculate how much money I have saved in 2022 as in previous years, the reality is that since I left in August 2022, I have almost used up my savings.

At first, I "resigned" without any financial compensation and without finding a home in advance. Although I don't regret my original decision now, I still have to admit that the naked resignation is indeed a little impulsive.

Source/Visual China

The original company underwent a major adjustment in the organizational structure in the second half of 2022, the senior management of our department changed blood, the new director was very different from the original team in management, and not long after the director parachuted, many colleagues in the department left.

My group was not affected much, but when I saw that my colleagues were gone one by one, I also submitted my resignation application with a hot brain. In this way, I left the unit where I had worked for 3 years. After leaving, I was in a good mood, especially at that time, I was still in contact with the head of the original department, and the other party also mentioned to me that when his side was settled, I could go to him again.

Therefore, in the first two months after leaving my job, I did not immediately look for a job, but chose to travel and relax. But after two months, my mood changed significantly, because the original leader's own job was not determined, and at the same time, the colleagues who left at the same time as me either did not find suitable jobs or had their salaries reduced. I was starting to get anxious.

In addition to anxiety, I revised my resume to look for a job, and even asked friends around me to help me push inside, but with little success. During the months of looking for a job, hundreds of resumes were submitted, but only a few interviews. The last few jobs that were supposed to be negotiated were also unsuccessful because of the salary negotiations.

No job means no income. I used to leave one-third on my card every month after receiving my salary, and the rest of the money was transferred to wealth management products, and then I deposited the remaining money on my salary card into the bank at the end of the year. After losing my job in the second half of 2022, I used to use the money in the wealth management platform, but in the first two months because I traveled around, I had little money left to use flexibly, so I started the idea of saving up.

Stretched, I have redeemed all the funds I had invested every month in the past few years, and when the New Year approached, I spent 50,000 yuan from the bank fixed deposit as a "New Year fee". After calculating it, it is impossible for me to save 100,000 yuan in 2022 like in previous years, because I am already unable to make ends meet, earning more than 100,000 yuan, but spending 200,000 yuan outside.

To make matters worse, I didn't find a new job one day, and that would continue. In 2023, my only wish is to break even.

Hit the chip vent and saved 150,000 in half a year

British | 26 years old chip industry practitioner

In the fall of 2021, I was recruited into the company at the hottest time of the chip industry, and after graduating in the summer of 2022, I officially joined the company, and by the end of the year I had unknowingly saved 150,000 yuan.

Looking at the balance in my bank card, I had a tangible experience of "saving money" for the first time, and most of this deposit came from my salary. My monthly salary is nearly 30,000 yuan, and I pay 15.5 salary per year. However, the main reason I can save money is because I spend less.

I have a friend who works in a large Internet factory, counting the housing subsidy, renting a master bedroom in Xierqi, Beijing also costs about 4,000 yuan, in addition to three meals, transportation, small gatherings with friends, etc., the monthly salary of nearly 30,000 yuan can be left 5,000 yuan.

And my company provides dormitories, not only close to the company, but also sharing a two-bedroom apartment with colleagues, in the North Fourth Ring Road, only need to pay 1,000 yuan a month in rent, and do not have to worry about the "strange roommates" I will encounter when renting a house, which really saves me money and worry, and can also save a transportation fee. The bitterness of Beipiao workers looking for houses everywhere and viewing houses was also skipped by my luck.

In addition to the large expenditure such as renting a house, I consider myself a person with a very low desire for consumption, clothes all year round, always a vertical wardrobe can be put down, can not keep up with the speed of fashion aesthetic changes, only for myself to wear comfortable clothes to pay, all year round is sneakers, inadvertently saved a lot of "decoration fees". At the same time, compared with fashionable Internet celebrity restaurants, I also prefer cheap and affordable Beijing-style authentic snacks, in the past six months in Beijing, in addition to chasing dramas on weekends, the most visited is the museum, and the social expenses are also small.

Therefore, counting the year-end bonus at the end of 2022, I did not deliberately save money, and just half a year after graduation, I unknowingly already had my own savings.

05

Do not deliberately reduce expenses, save 100,000 yuan

Seven seven | 28 years old Community operation

Since graduation, I have been engaged in self-media operation related work. For the first three years of entering the industry, the salary has been very low, only about 6,000 yuan per month, basically can only guarantee rent and daily expenses, can not save.

At the end of 2020, I changed jobs, and my salary can exceed 10,000. But I still couldn't save money, because I came to Beijing from Guangzhou, and the expenses for food, clothing, housing and transportation increased.

I found that saving this kind of thing actually requires a goal and perseverance to achieve. Because there are friends around, the salary is not high, and you can save money; There are people who are well paid, but they are moonshiners.

I decided to set myself a goal, and that was to save money for my studies. According to my own ability, I chose a European country, and simply calculated, the tuition and living expenses of a graduate student were about 200,000 yuan, and I decided to save enough money for 3 years.

It wasn't easy for me. Actually, because of my career, I couldn't increase my income significantly. In 2021, my annual salary is about 180,000 yuan; In 2022, my annual salary is also about 200,000 yuan. These are all pre-tax, and there will be less after tax.

In terms of basic operation, I will save 5,000 yuan every month when I receive my salary. Previously, I would invest in bonds, funds, etc., but now the market is not good, so I take them out and put them in a separate bank deposit card.

Source/Visual China

In terms of life, my monthly rental fee is 3,000 yuan, 1,000 yuan for my parents' family, and then daily expenses. I don't want to lose my life because I save, basically I still spend the money I want to spend.

I often work from home, and my diet should be a little less economical than the average office worker. Because I am lazy, I will order lunch takeout once a day, about 30 yuan, and in the evening I will simply make a dinner to save some.

Because I drink coffee every day, I might have bought Starbucks before, which was a lot of expense. In the first half of 2022, I bought a bean grinder and an espresso machine, the latter of which was a second-hand product from Xianyutao, and spent about 600 yuan before and after. I usually buy fresh coffee beans and come back and make my own coffee every morning. This decision is very good, I am used to the coffee I make, and then I feel bored when I drink Starbucks, and I have lost interest in spending tens of yuan to buy coffee.

I don't like stockpiling in life. When buying daily necessities, such as sanitary napkins, I will accurately calculate how many tablets are used every month, how much to use in half a year, and then buy them on demand, not for cheaper. When buying clothes, I have the same concept, not seeking more but refining. On everyday items, I basically don't spend more than I need.

In 2022, due to the epidemic, the time to go out to meet with friends for dinner was greatly reduced, and I could not travel at will, or even go to the movies, so I saved a lot of money.

Even if we go out to eat, the per capita cost of our dinner is basically less than 100 yuan. I was surprised to hear a colleague say that she went out to eat for 200-300 yuan per person.

I still have entertainment expenses. In the past two years of the Beijing International Film Festival, I have seen nearly 10 films, and the ticket price for each movie is about 600 yuan. Seizing the opportunity, I also went on a three-day short trip in the Mid-Autumn Festival and spent more than 2,000 yuan.

In addition, at the beginning of the year, I also spent more than 3,000 yuan to go to fitness, and at the end of the year, I spent another 4,000 yuan to learn the language.

2022 has passed, and the New Year fee left to go home has now saved a total of about 110,000 yuan. Judging by my income level, it's already good. But I plan to save more money in 2023, hoping to save 300,000 yuan as soon as possible.

06

The new job has good benefits and helps me complete the savings plan

Swallow | 32 years old Healthcare worker

Many people say that 2022 is difficult, especially in terms of making money, it is basically a state of "just let the cow work, not feed the cow", but I am just the opposite.

In the middle of 2022, I finally "escaped" the hospital after passing repeated written tests and interviews, and became a medical worker in a university in Beijing. Before that, I had only one work experience in more than ten years, nurse.

When I was young, I didn't feel anything bad about being a nurse, especially like me, who entered a third-class hospital in Beijing as soon as I graduated, and there was still a staff, so the welfare benefits in all aspects were good. If you have to say that you are not satisfied, it may be that as you grow older, you don't like to work night shifts more and more, especially if you got married a few years ago and had your own children, you want to spend more time with him.

But the position of nurse basically needs to go to the hospital at 7 a.m., and then go home at 4 p.m., sometimes having to work overtime, and don't have much time to spend with the children.

So, at the end of 2021, I had the idea of changing jobs. After considering my own needs, I must have plenty of rest time for my next job, plus when I was in the hospital, I was a staff member, so the school medical staff became my first choice.

I took about 3 exams to recruit healthcare workers from different schools, from kindergarten to elementary school to university. Finally, in comparison, I came to my current workplace.

Photo/Nucleic acid for school students Source/Swallow photo

I thought that the salary of the school medical staff would be much less than when I was a nurse. But in fact, the small part is basically negligible.

Before becoming a nurse, the money (salary + bonus + night shift fee) received every month was almost 10,000 yuan. Then every quarter there will be performance wages, holiday fees, subsidies, etc., seven seven eight eight together, there will be thousands of yuan. Now the monthly salary is very fixed, a little more than 10,000 yuan, and there are no other subsidies.

But compared with being a nurse before, the current work in school can basically be described as "0 expenditure". The first is the transportation fee, I drive to and from work, the hospital is only free to park on statutory holidays, otherwise the parking fee for a day is nearly 100 yuan, and the parking fee is about 2,000 yuan in a month. Coupled with some living expenses, it will cost about 4,000-5,000 yuan a month.

But at school it is different, not only parking is free, but even charging the car is free, and then eat in the school cafeteria, a meal can be full for more than a dozen yuan. Occasionally on duty, there is also staff dormitory. More importantly, two paid long holidays (winter and summer vacations) a year allow me to have enough time to spend with my baby.

Although from the figures, it is true that the income has become less, but after careful calculation, the work is easier, there are more holidays, and you can accompany your children. Moreover, my salary in the second half of 2022 basically did not move, and all became deposits.

07

Eat and live at home, save half of your salary

Yume Peach | 29 years old Internet practitioner

After graduating from graduate school, I worked for an internet company for almost 5 years. For me, the happiest thing is to be able to eat and live at home in Beijing, which is quite expensive, which can help me save a lot of expenses.

My average after-tax income is about 10,000 yuan a month, and I can save about half of it every month, saving about 70,000 yuan a year, and now my deposit has just exceeded the 300,000 yuan mark.

My expenses are mainly focused on the quality consumption of food, culture and entertainment, accounting for nearly half of my salary expenses.

First of all, the expenditure on catering is divided into two parts - about 1,000 yuan is used to buy breakfast, fresh food, prepared dishes, as well as chocolate, pork and other snacks for the family, which can also be regarded as a little food for the family after earning money. The other part is going out to dinner with friends, and as a foodie, I still can't be sloppy in the matter of "dry rice". I usually go out with friends twice a week, which may add up to 200-250 yuan, and the monthly expenses are also about 1000 yuan.

Source/Visual China

The second is entertainment consumption. My usual work is related to entertainment, so I often "blatantly" use this as an excuse to claim to spend some quality consumption. For example, an average of two theatrical films, one drama and one or two exhibitions a month is about 500 yuan. In addition, I often "can't resist" some beautiful waste - cultural and creative bookmarks, refrigerator stickers, dolls, etc., which will cost hundreds of yuan if I am not careful.

In terms of transportation, I basically take the subway when I go out, and the monthly expenditure is about 400 yuan. This is the relatively economical part in my opinion, because a taxi will cost more than 1,000 yuan.

Buying birthday gifts for relatives and friends, giving small gifts to each other during the holidays, including red envelopes for elders during the New Year, the average monthly expenditure is about 500 yuan.

In addition, I spend about 800 yuan a month on clothing, bags, cosmetics, and skin care products. I hardly buy all kinds of designer clothes and rarely "passionately consume" in these areas, which also creates conditions for me to save money.

It must be admitted that the friends in Beipiao will spend about 5,000 yuan more per month than Beijing "natives" like me. Therefore, I think the main reason why I have been able to save so much money over the years is that home is nearby.
