On September 25, at the just-concluded 14th National Games Women's Break Dance Competition, Henan Province athlete Liu Qingyi won the championship, as the first time to enter the National Games competition, 16-year-old Liu Qingyi won the historic gold medal.

Breaking is a genre of hip-hop. Previously, breakdancing was successfully added to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and next year's Hangzhou Asian Games. In order to integrate with the Olympic Games, this year's National Games also set up a break dance program for the first time in history. For the breakdancing project, it is a historic development.

At the National Games, 55 athletes from 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government participated in the Competition. The tournament is divided into two stages: the qualifiers and the final, and the players of each delegation compete in the 1v1 match format to compete for the top 16 men and women to enter the final round.

Liu Chao, head coach of the provincial break dance team, said that Henan's street dance belongs to the early batch in China, starting around 1997 or even earlier. Between 2001 and 2004, henan's street dance level was very strong, and whenever there was a national competition, "other teams did not want to be in a group with us, they all wanted to avoid us." In recent years, under the impact of commercialization, Henan's street dance level is still among the best in the country.

"Women, in particular, are counted internationally." Liu Chao said that in 2019, Henan officially set up a break dance team, and at the National Games, Henan had two male and female players participating in the competition. Among them, 16-year-old Liu Qingyi is highly anticipated. She won the National Street Dance League Zhengzhou in May this year. "Liu Qingyi is an extremely talented player, although she has only practiced street dance for 5 years, she is very good at both physical fitness, technical ability, and comprehension and expression of music."

On September 25, the final of the breakdancing event at the National Games was based on the skill, diversity, performance, musicality, creativity and personality of the athletes. Liu Qingyi and Shandong's Rui Jiuqi launched a final duel, after four rounds of competition, Liu Qingyi won all of them, and finally won the championship 4:0.

For the very young Liu Qingyi, her goal is not only the National Games, but also the Olympic Games. The national games champion will lay a solid foundation for Liu Qingyi to enter the national training team and join the Olympic lineup in the future.
