The next major update to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is scheduled for release "at the end of February."
This is according to the official release of a new video that now has a milestone of more than 1,000 Pokémon.
The specifics of the 1.2 update are limited, and the announcement only says it will "include bug fixes and added features."
Full details will be shared later, but it's possible that the 1.2 update of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will foreshadow the previously promised ability to link the game to the Pokémon Go phone — among other things, that will eventually allow players to catch the adorable Gimmighoul.
In November, Pokémon Go developer Niantic said the feature would launch sometime in 2023.
As for the "bug fixes" promised by version 1.2, this could be anything, but players hope they fix the serious performance issues that have plagued the game since its release. Nintendo acknowledged the performance issue in December, saying, "We take player feedback seriously and are working hard to improve the game."
Digital Foundry called Pokémon: Vermilion a "full-blown technical glitch" in a version released last year, highlighting "embarrassing art design, horrible draw distances, poor performance, and a long list of bugs" — so there's still plenty of room for improvement.
Despite widespread criticism of the game's technical issues, Pokémon: Vermilion was a huge commercial success. The two books sold 10 million copies in their first three days of release, breaking the record already impressive on the day of their release.
Using data from Famitsu, game sales aggregator Game Data Library noted that Pokémon: Vermilion broke Pokémon Sword and Shield's long-term sales share (accumulated for three years) in just eight weeks.
