At the age of 8, he and his brother herded ducks in Duck Liao, a few miles away from home, and lived independently. Once encountered wind and rain and heavy water, he was almost drowned, and he experienced the hardships of life since he was a child. And he survived with his own hands with unremitting efforts, and also fought for school and achieved excellent results. After being encouraged by the support of Principal Dai of the middle school and the president of the correctional hospital, he was encouraged to put on a prosthesis, and he was not afraid of breaking his hands and feet and learning to ride a bicycle to school. In order to complete his secondary school studies, Zheng Fengxi worked everywhere, he participated in the essay contest with an essay "A Boat in the Ocean", which caused great social repercussions, many people expressed their willingness to fund him to complete his studies, but he did not want to rely too much on others, and later successfully completed his secondary school studies and was admitted to the Law Department of Chung Hsing University in Taiwan with excellent results. After the deeds were reported, they aroused social praise. His strong perseverance and tenacious spirit of struggle touched Wu Jizhao, a female classmate of the law department of the same school. But Wu Jizhao's parents obstructed in every way. After several twists and turns, the two lovers finally married. He also had two daughters after marriage. After graduating from university, he returned to his hometown to teach in the middle school, determined to build a library, and won the respect of the villagers and students.

With the support of his wife, he continued to write the autobiographical novel "A Broken Ship in the Ocean", which caused a sensation after publication, was reprinted 10 times, and the deeds were widely circulated, and Chiang Ching-kuo paid much attention to it and praised it. In 1974, he was listed in the 12th "Top Ten Outstanding Youth" in Taiwan. Unfortunately, he suffered from liver cancer and died in 1975 at the age of 32. His deeds were made into the movie "A Boat in the Ocean" and won the Golden Horse Award for Taiwanese Film.
