Remember the robot dog in the TV series Black Mirror? Today, that idea has come true. According to the British "Daily Star", at the 2021 Annual Meeting of the US Army Association held from October 11 to 13, a "killer robot dog" carrying a sniper rifle made its debut.
The "killer robot dog", called SPRU (short for Special Purpose Unmanned Rifle, meaning "special purpose unmanned rifle"), was developed in collaboration with Ghost Robotics and weapons maker WORD International.

It is understood that this "killer robot dog" is divided into two parts, the lower body is a four-legged unmanned ground vehicle provided by the American Ghost Robot Company, and equipped with a Teledyne FLIR Boson thermal imaging camera with 30x optical zoom, capable of picking targets during the day or at night. Its upper body is "carrying" a 6.5 mm Creedmoor rifle from WORD International.
The American Ghost Robot Company said that in the test, the "killer robot dog" was able to accurately lock on to the target within 1.2 kilometers, indicating that this unmanned system has excellent stability capabilities. The company also said the "killer robot dog" is not easy to push down. The company's website reads: "It is unstoppable and able to recover immediately from slips, falls or breakdowns and move on." ”
The "Theater" column of the US "Drive" website also pointed out in related reports that small armed unmanned ground systems are not new, and increasing the military utility of weapons systems on quadruped unmanned ground vehicles will be obvious.
