On November 23, the 5/2022 Anti-Smuggling Leading Committee Consultative Meeting was held in the capital of Myanmar, and Deputy General Soe Win, Vice Chairman of the National Management Commission and Deputy Prime Minister, attended and delivered a relevant speech. Between January and September 2022, Myanmar cracked more than 3,000 anti-smuggling cases, involving a total of 45.6 billion kyats.

It is reported that the meeting venue is located in the reception center of the Ministry of Economy and Trade in Naypyidaw, and the vice chairman of the Anti-Smuggling Leading Committee Planning and the Federal Minister of Finance U Win Shin, the Federal Minister of Economy and Trade U Aung Naiu, and the deputy minister-level officials of the Ministry of Defense and Commerce and Trade attended the meeting. In addition, the chairmen of the special anti-smuggling teams of the provinces and states also participated in the meeting by videoconference.

Senior General Sowin Sowen, vice chairman of the State Management Commission, said that in nine months, the anti-smuggling department has cracked a total of 3,095 cases, involving about 45.6 billion kyats. During the same period of previous years, a total of 1,558 cases were solved, involving an amount of about 6.626 billion kyats, 1,537 more cases solved than in previous years, and the amount involved was 38.974 billion kyats. Judging from the data on anti-smuggling cases in the provinces, Nekron detected the most cases in September.

In addition to smuggled products, special anti-smuggling groups and departments at all levels also need to strengthen the inspection of weapons, ammunition and explosives. Illicit trade is rampant for many reasons, including the private collection of money by individuals, so I once again appeal to relevant personnel at all levels to fulfill their responsibilities. Domestic tax incentives are not available in other countries.

At a time when smuggling is rampant in Myanmar and illegal goods continue to flow into the country, the Myanmar authorities have stepped up their anti-smuggling efforts and severely cracked down on illegal imports, exports, contraband and restricted goods for the purpose of tax avoidance. In addition, since April this year, Myanmar's Ministry of Commerce and Trade has prohibited goods arriving at terminals without declaring an import license.
