However, judging from the current quotations, the committee's efforts have not paid off significantly, and shrimp prices have been diving in the past week.
The general decline in shrimp prices is mainly due to sluggish consumption in various countries. Ecuador, where white shrimp production has increased significantly this year, has been particularly affected.
Although it is also falling sharply, the quotation of white shrimp farmed in China is still the highest, such as Guangdong Province, where the recent quotation of 50-60 white shrimp is as high as $6.72/kg, and the unit price is exactly $3 higher than the Ecuadorian 50-60 white shrimp in the same period!
The advantages of production, price and quality have made Ecuador the top supplier of white shrimp in China. In the first 10 months of this year, the mainland imported about 700,000 tons of warm-water shrimp, of which about 450,000 tons came from Ecuador, accounting for about 64.4%, far from other white shrimp producing countries.
In the long run, China's consumer demand for white shrimp has increased compared with previous years, but the occasional epidemic has hindered the consumption of domestic white shrimp stocks and quenched the expectations of the Ecuadorian white shrimp industry - Ecuadorian white shrimp practitioners said that under such market demand, low prices may continue until January and February next year.
As Ecuador's largest export market for shrimp, China, which should have ushered in a peak of stockpiling in the fourth quarter, actually imported white shrimp tended to decline! In October, the arrival volume of shrimp was only 49,000 tons, down 18.3% from the previous month and an increase of 10,000 tons from the same period last year.
Imports of warm-water shrimp also fell from 93,000 tons to 80,000 tons, only from the month-on-month change in monthly imports, the import of shrimp products fell at this time, which is itself abnormal - whether it is 2019 before the epidemic or 2020 and 2021 after the outbreak, no matter what the specific number is, it will always be higher than in September.
From the perspective of shrimp product arrivals in major source countries, the arrival of shrimp products in Ecuador, India, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries has decreased.
