On August 17, the reporter came to Baihe Town, Liuye Lake Tourist Resort in Changde. In the vineyard of Zhang Daoheng, chairman of the Xinnongfeng Grape Professional Cooperative in Liuyehu, under the high grapevines, a bunch of emerald green and shiny "sunshine roses" are full of branches, and customers come to pick them endlessly.
"'Sunshine Rose' is so sweet that it really has the aroma of roses when you eat it!" Consumers taste the grapes while emitting a sigh of admiration.
"Vines, covered front eaves, full of pearls." Grapes have been one of the favorite fruits since ancient times. The history of Zhang Daoheng's planting of grapes began more than 10 years ago.
Zhang Daoheng, a 63-year-old native of Xingang Village in Baihe Town, has a rich and wonderful experience: he has gone out to work and seen the world; he has invested in entrepreneurship and served as a boss. In 2008, Zhang Daoheng transferred 30 acres of land to local villagers and began to grow grapes, and he was very busy all day. Land preparation, purchase of seedlings and seedlings, water and fertilizer management, flower thinning, shaping and pruning, market sales, more than 10 years, Zhang Daoheng concentrated on the study of grape planting technology and management methods, and now has become a veritable grape king of Liuye Lake Tourist Resort.
"I, the king of grapes, was given to me by the Portuguese farmers, and I am their technical adviser." Zhang Daoheng laughed at himself.
Zhang Daoheng's vineyard was established in 2008 and began to bear fruit in 2011, and now produces more than 40,000 kilograms per year. In 2017, he introduced a new variety of "Sunshine Rose", and now the yield per mu has reached 1500 kg, and the output value per mu is more than 20,000 yuan. 30 acres of vineyards, in addition to the production costs, earning more than 200,000 yuan a year is not a problem.
After more than 10 years of groping in the vineyard, Zhang Daoheng has paid too much. During the grape sales season, he gets up at 3 a.m. every day, picks grapes in the orchard and packs them up and sends them to the city. On weekdays, he actively explores the biological control technology of grape diseases and insects, reduces the use of pesticides, strengthens the thinning of flowers and fruits, and provides high-quality grapes for the public; he expands sales channels, takes the initiative to connect with the fruit market and e-commerce, and sells 100,000 kilograms of grapes every year. He also serves as a technical advisor to more than 10 vineyards, and under his patient guidance, the vineyard area of Willow Lake Tourist Resort now exceeds 1,000 acres.
Talking about the experience of planting grapes in these years, Zhang Daoheng frankly said that the management of grapes is the key, and at the critical moment, we must "take the pulse" ourselves, rely on others alone, the quality cannot be guaranteed, the output cannot go up, and the economic benefits are far behind.
Over the years, by planting grapes, Zhang Daoheng's life is like sesame blossoming - more and more high. In 2019, he took out more than 1 million yuan of savings to build a new small western-style building and improve living conditions. When night falls, the villagers go to the front of his house in pairs to dance square dances; when the winter and summer vacations are over, the daughter and son-in-law drive their grandchildren home in a car, and the family is happy.
Asked about the future plans, Zhang Daoheng said that the contract period of the orchard is still 3 years, after the expiration of the contract period, he is ready to reduce the scale of planting, concentrate on planting 10 acres of vineyards, be a good technical consultant in his spare time, help the local Portuguese farmers to do a good job in sales, make life easier, and begin to enjoy a happy life in his old age.
