Gunkanjima Island, also known as Hashima Island, is located 15 kilometers from nagasaki city in Japan, and because the seabed near it is rich in coal, coal has been mined on the island since the Meiji period. Later, he was bought by Mitsubishi Corporation to take charge of the operation. It was not until 1974, when oil replaced coal as Japan's main source of energy, that the island's coal mines were completely closed, and the islanders evacuated, leaving only an empty castle.
