Xiamen, December 22 (Reporter Chen Geng, correspondent Zhang Youyu) Xiamen Haicang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau recently intercepted a snail from a batch of imported waste plastics from the Netherlands, which was identified by the Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center as a quarantine pest prohibited from entering China - scattered snails, and at the same time intercepted nearly 100 medical vector biological giant-tailed Ari flies.

It is reported that the waste plastic totaled 582 tons, with a value of 301,600 US dollars, and was shipped from the port of Antwerp in Belgium. In order to eliminate the risk of the introduction of the pest, the Xiamen Haicang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau strengthened the quarantine inspection of the imported waste plastics, implemented quarantine treatment in accordance with the law, and interviewed relevant enterprises to take emergency precautions and early warnings.

In recent years, the Xiamen Haicang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has repeatedly intercepted plant quarantine pests - scattered large snails and garden onion snails from waste plastics imported from the EU countries of Spain and Poland, of which garden onion snails were intercepted for the first time at Xiamen Port.

According to reports, the scattered snail originated in the Countries bordering the Mediterranean in Europe and is one of the most widely transmitted pests in the world, mainly harming horticultural crops such as vegetables and flowers, and also spreading a variety of zoonotic parasitic diseases, which is a quarantine pest of international concern. It is included in the List of Quarantine Pests of Imported Plants of the People's Republic of China and is one of only six species of alien harmful molluscs on the list. The snail has not been found in China, but from its biological characteristics, ecology and transmission hazard analysis, the snail is suitable for habitat and reproduction in the vast area of China, there is a possibility of serious harm to China's horticultural production, because of its hidden and scattered, quarantine inspection is difficult to find, once introduced into the country and colonization, it will certainly pose a major potential threat to China's agriculture, natural ecosystems, human health and trade.
