B-Fey's form this season has been questioned from time to time, but without the 28-year-old on the pitch, the team lacks inspiration, is easily split in midfield and has little bite. They also lack leadership and balance in midfield, highlighting the importance of B fees for Ten Hach.

A huge stroke of luck ensured United were just 2-1 down at half-time and the game was still ongoing, but Ten Hach decided not to change his side at half-time, insisting on the trust of a starter who had been so poor in the first half and was forced to pay the price when Ramsey restored Villa's two-goal lead three minutes later in the second half.

David De Gea: beaten three times by the Manchester United defence on a difficult afternoon.
Dalot: Looked good in recent weeks, struggled at Villa Park and missed a good chance in the second half.
Victor Lindelof: The really weak link in the defense. Caught two goals from Villa and was too easy to be bullied by the home team.
Martinez: Couldn't keep up with Leon Bailly in the opening and was pulled around.
Luke Shaw: A free-kick was taken for the second goal, but with the help of Jacob Ramsey, United's shot returned.

Casemiro: The best of the bad guys in midfield
Eriksen: There is no strong enough presence because Manchester United is too easy to cut through.
Van der Beek: Completely anonymous at the start of his first Premier League of the season.

Marcus Rashford: Again struggling on the right side but not having an impact.
Ronaldo: Hardly involved in any attack, a good chance to squander a header. Never like a scoring king.
Garnacho: United's smartest attacker, but failed to score another after scoring against Real Sociedad.

Ten Hach: His decision to make Ronaldo captain was strange and it was a bit puzzling to see Van der Beek start after a poor performance against Real Sociedad. An own goal before half-time provided United with a chance to pull back a set, but Ten Hach chose not to change his side at half-time and the game was over when he introduced his substitute.
