The ten most disappointing players in the Premier League
The World Cup in Qatar is just around the corner, and with it comes a slowdown in the Premier League. This is also a time for clubs to stop and think about life. Some have left, some are still there; Some are fleeting, while others are star-studded.
Vangelard and Tuchel have left; Erling Haaland wasted no time plundering a single goal to chase Arsenal led by Jesus, Saka and Odegaard; Newcastle squeezed into the top four, Manchester United resurrected, Chelsea upset; Liverpool fell out of the top six... The Premier League season in 2022/23 is truly elusive.
Today, we take a look at the Premier League luminaries who have disappointed the Premier League so far. The way we judge the "most disappointing" is by comparing a player's performance to date with what fans expect from their performance.
It's not necessarily the worst squad in the Premier League, but so far they have fallen short of expectations.
10- Goalkeeper: Sam Johnstone (Crystal Palace)
Henderson, Leno, Bazunu and Pope all got off to a solid start to the new season, but Johnstone didn't. We can't say that Johnstone's performance was disappointing as he has been pinned to the bench and if nothing else, he could well have been dropped out of Southgate's squad.
9- Left-back: Renan Lodi (Nottingham Forest)
Renan Lodi was impressive at Atletico Madrid, but he was truly disappointing in England, conceding 21 goals in his six Premier League starts, as we could see at Arsenal 5-0 Forest, which, if nothing else, will return to the Championship next season.
8- Central Back: Jan Bednarek (Aston Villa)
Aston Villa have been disappointing this season, so it's normal for Gerrard to be out of class. Jan Bednarek didn't play any role for Villa – starting once and being substituted after playing half-time after trailing 3-0 to Fulham.
7- Defender: Marc Cucurella (Chelsea)
Chelsea's away game to Brighton was arguably the most dramatic game of the season. One was a former Brighton manager and the other was a former Brighton player, only to return home and lose 4-1 to his old club.
Cucurella – one of the most expensive defenders in history, looks more ordinary than the average defender. His reunion with Porter did not make the Champions League dominant's defence more solid.
6- Forward: Mikel Damsgard (Brentford)
Brentford have been cautious in the transfer market because their finances have not allowed them to spend a fortune, but they proved to have made a small mistake – buying a Danish international who scored in the European semi-finals for £16.7 million – but he has so far only scored one goal for the Bees.
5- Central midfielder: Yves Bissouma (Tottenham Hotspur)
Bissouma's transfer will be likened to the poaching of Brighton's best players. But now Tottenham believe he is a non-necessary signing and Conte feels he is not necessary.
4- Front: Philippe Coutinho (Aston Villa)

1- Forward: Emmanuel Dennis (Nottingham Forest)
